NEW DELHI:

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Secretary Shri Pankaj Gupta along with senior AAP leader and cabinet minister, Ms. Atishi, met the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi along with the party’s legal team to file a complaint against objectionable posters and hoardings circulated across Delhi by the BJP. It should be noted that in some objectionable posters, the BJP has even used the photo of Delhi’s Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal egregiously.

Senior AAP Leader and Cabinet Minister in the Kejriwal government, Ms. Atishi, stated while addressing media queries, “The BJP has put up several obnoxious posters across Delhi, some of which even feature photos of Shri Arvind Kejriwal. Our legal team filed a complaint against these objectionable hoardings six days ago. Today, we met the CEO (Chief Electoral Officer) of Delhi. It is deeply concerning for us that even after six days, no action has been taken against the BJP. This is particularly worrying because serious questions about a level playing field are being raised in this election.”

“For the first time in the history of this country, after the announcement of elections, a sitting Chief Minister, the National Convenor of a national party, has been arrested just before the election. For the first time in the history of this country, the bank account of a major opposition party has been frozen. It is unprecedented in the history of this country that during elections, the Income Tax Department sends notices to opposition political parties. It is the first time that before the elections, for four days, the office of the Aam Aadmi Party had been barricaded in the name of security,” she said.

The AAP leader added that today, the entire nation is concerned about whether every party is getting a level playing field in this Lok Sabha election or not, because if action is not taken on some posters and hoardings even after six days, what solution is there to even bigger problems?

Ms. Atishi mentioned, “Today, we _ AAP National Secretary and member of legal team Pankaj Gupta and Atishi _ met CEO, Delhi. We’ve been assured that action will be taken. If requisite action is not taken, then we will ask for time from the Election Commission of India. There’s also a very concerning trend for us that the Election Commission of India doesn’t give time to the opposition parties of the country.”

“This Lok Sabha election is becoming a historical landmark for numerous notorious reasons, “I want to remind the Election Commission of India (ECI) that the constitution of India has conferred on them (ECI) a responsibility to protect democracy and keep it alive in the country. We hope that the Election Commission of India will not be a political tool of the central government or any particular political party,” Ms. Atishi concluded.
