Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal on Monday unveiled the Ashoka Pillar on the eve of the 72nd Republic Day celebrations inside the premises of the Delhi Assembly. Marking the occasion of the 72nd Republic Day which will be celebrated tomorrow, CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal congratulated the people and said that it is a moment of pride for the Delhi Assembly that the Ashoka Pillar, which is a symbol of national integrity, has been installed in the Vidhan Sabha. He said that the Ashoka Chakra was adopted in the form of the national symbol of India on 26th January 1950. Now, when it is being installed in the Vidhan Sabha, it will bring back to the Ministers and MLAs the values of India as a democracy and a republic. When the Ministers and MLAs sit in the assembly, they should remember that they have been chosen and elected by the people, and every word that they say should be dedicated to those very people. The ministers are in service of those people, not their masters, he added. Delhi Assembly speaker Shri Ram Niwas Goyal and Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla were also present at the occasion.
CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal said, “I want to congratulate you all on the occasion of 72nd Republic Day and Voter’s Day. It is a moment of pride for us that the Ashoka Pillar has been installed in the Delhi Assembly. I want to congratulate all of you, especially Speaker Shri Ram Niwas Goyal Ji. Since the time he has taken the seat of the speaker, he has done some commendable work to improve the infrastructure of the Delhi Legislative Assembly. For instance, the 73rd picture of Raja Nahar Singh ji has been set up in the gallery of the assembly. Many warriors, who fought the war and made sacrifices to make the country self-reliant, you will find their pictures installed in the gallery. You can also witness the courtyard which is full of lights of different colors every evening. It is his initiative that every festival of every religion, be it Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, or Christian is celebrated in the Vidhan Sabha. This is the beauty of this country, our country belongs to people of every religion and culture.”

Shri Ram Niwas Goyal said, “I want to welcome you all to the ceremony. For the last 4 years, we organized the constitution ceremony in the park on 26th November, and suddenly we realized there is no particular sign representing the constitution that inspires us. We decided to establish the Ashoka Chakra Pillar in the Vidhan Sabha as it is our national symbol. I am glad that our dream has come true. I also would like to welcome the people who have come from the village of Raja Nahar Singh Ji for their setting up of Raja Nahar Singh Ji’s painting in the Delhi Assembly. I also want to congratulate you all on the occasion of 72nd Republic Day. I would like to thank CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal for gracing the occasion with his presence.”
