Aam Aadmi Party’s campaign against the arrest of two of its former ministers, Shri Manish Sisodia and Shri Satyendar Jain, has been successful in reaching out to the residents of Delhi. On Monday, AAP Delhi State Convenor and Cabinet Minister Shri Gopal Rai said that over 10 lakh signatures had been received from across Delhi demanding the release of the senior AAP leaders.
AAP had launched the campaign on March 13th and decided to begin a door-to-door campaign throughout Delhi to demand for the release of its senior leaders who have been lodged in jail by the central investigative agencies over fake cases. As part of the campaign, Shri Gopal Rai said that the Lok Sabha in-charge, district in-charge, co-ordinators, MLAs and councillors of the party visited around 2800 polling stations in the 70 Vidhan Sabha constituencies of Delhi and got the signatures from the people. “We set a goal of collecting roughly 10 lakh signatures of the residents of Delhi against the arrest of these two leaders to send to the Prime Minister. Our objective was accomplished yesterday. This stack of letters that is present in front of you today has the name, address, signature and the phone numbers of over 10 lakh residents of Delhi who have expressed their opinions and support to the AAP campaign,” he said.
Shri Gopal Rai further said that everyone in Delhi is aware of the accomplishments of these two great leaders of AAP. He said that Shri Manish Sisodia is celebrated not just in Delhi and India, but across the world for the model of education that he has presented here in Delhi. Similarly, he said that Shri Satyendar Jain presented an innovative model of healthcare to the country by coming up with Mohalla Clinics. “But today the scenario is such that both of these ministers have been taken into custody and are now being held in jail. Shri Manish Sisodia’s detention has caused a great deal of discontent among the residents of Delhi. Many people have started to wonder why not even a notice has been issued against those people against whom cases of embezzlement and forgery involving crores of rupees has taken place. When such individuals, who are already under investigation, join the BJP, their cases are closed immediately, and they are free to move around the nation. The ministers in Delhi who performed the best work in the areas of education and healthcare are currently lodged in jail on the basis of fake cases. This is why the Aam Aadmi Party decided to conduct a door-to-door survey and hold a Mohalla Sabha following Manish Sisodia’s arrest,” he said.
Shri Gopal Rai then read out the content of the letter that the residents of Delhi have signed and sent for the Prime Minister of India. “Respected Prime Minister, you have made a mistake by detaining Shri Manish Sisodia and Shri Satyendar Jain. I’m both terribly sad and furious about this case. Shri Manish Sisodia is a really kind and trustworthy individual. He has put a lot of effort into giving Delhi’s children a top-notch education. He has modernised the public schools while opposing fee increases for private institutions. Delhi’s government schools are a source of pride for the city’s residents; tourists travel from all over the world to visit them. The government hospitals in Delhi have been overhauled by Shri Satyendar Jain. By opening mohalla clinics on every street, he has given everyone access to free medical care and free medications. Delhi used to be known for CNG and Common Wealth Games scam, but these days the city is popular for its top-notch schools and mohalla clinics. You are not combating corruption, but rather the Aam Aadmi Party, by detaining Shri Manish Sisodia and Shri Satyendar Jain. Please arrest those people who have stolen billions of rupees from banks and LIC if you truly want to fight corruption. Millions of dollars belonging to fellow countrymen have been lost, but not a single investigating body has stepped forward to look into such a massive fraud. Why is that so? You claim to be battling corruption, but by detaining Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, you have made everyone question whom you are actually fighting. Why do you discourage others from doing good deeds while you do your own? For the administration of Delhi, Shri Manish Sisodia and Shri Satyendar Jain are a crucial link. To keep them behind bars would be unfair to Delhi’s residents.”
The AAP Delhi Convenor said that over 10 lakh individuals across the country have signed this letter. He also pointed out how the central investigative agencies raided the residence, office, bank locker and ancestral village of Shri Manish Sisodia and yet found nothing to prove any crime. Similarly, multiple locations were raided in the case against Shri Satyendar Jain and yet nothing against him was found as well, but yet both of these ministers had been lodged in jail.
He concluded by telling PM Modi to focus on his own work and to let the Delhi Government work to fulfil the desires of its residents. “The people of Delhi wish to convey one message to the nation’s Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi through this press conference: Do good work and let the administration of Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal work in Delhi. The Delhi Government is doing some excellent work for its residents and it is the people who benefit from the deeds of the government. This campaign was started to send this message to the Centre and we have been successful in putting our point forward,” he said.
AAP Chief Spokesperson and Cabinet Minister Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj said that in the last one month all the office bearers and workers of Aam Aadmi Party’s Delhi organisation worked day and night. “We went to every house and knocked on the door and showed this letter to the people. There are more than 10 lakh letters. All these letters will be given to the Prime Minister in the form of a petition. With folded hands, I thank the people of Delhi for giving full support and blessings to the Aam Aadmi Party in this campaign,” he said.

It wasn’t right of you to arrest Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain. This makes me very sad and angry. Manish Sisodia is a very decent and honest person. He has worked very hard to provide good education to the children of Delhi. He rejuvenated government schools and did not allow fees to be increased by cracking down on private schools. People from all over the world come to see Delhi’s government schools. Today the government schools of Delhi are the pride of Delhiites. Satyendar Jain gave a new life to the government hospitals of Delhi, by opening mohalla clinics on every street, giving free treatment and medicines to all. People from all over the world come to visit Mohalla Clinics in Delhi. There was a time when Delhi was known for CNG and Commonwealth scam, but today Delhi is known for good schools and mohalla clinics. By arresting Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, you are not fighting corruption but the Aam Aadmi Party. If you really want to fight corruption, then arrest the billionaire who looted billions of rupees from banks and LIC. Crores of public money has been lost, but not a single investigative agency of the country is coming forward to investigate such a huge scam. Why so? You say you are fighting against corruption but by arresting Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain you have made us all think who your real fight is against? You do your good work, draw a long line. Why stop the good works of others? Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain are an important link for the administration of Delhi. Keeping them in jail is injustice to the people of Delhi.
