Education Minister Ms Atishi and Delhi Mayor Dr Shelly Oberoi conducted a surprise inspection of the MCD Primary School in Wazirabad village on Monday morning. During the inspection, they found the school in highly dilapidated condition due to a lack of maintenance and cleanliness. Students in junior classes were found sitting on the floor, the principal was not present at school, and the school was in extremely unhygienic condition. Some of the classes were being partially used as storerooms, and the desks and benches in some of the classrooms were covered with a thick layer of dust that had not been cleaned in a long time.

Upon seeing the state of the school, Education Minister Ms Atishi and Mayor Dr Shelly Oberoi reprimanded the school principal and said that all cleanliness-related issues in the school must be immediately resolved, or else she will have to face stringent action. Mayor Shelly Oberoi said that the poor state of cleanliness in the school reflects the insensitive attitude of the school administration towards the future of the students studying here. Referring to the negligence in maintenance and cleanliness, the principal and education officer was given an ultimatum by the minister. Failure to do so may result in severe consequences, including suspension.

During the inspection, it was found that children in one class are forced to sit on the floor as there are no desks available. In another classroom, half of the room is filled with old broken desks. The classroom floor was also broken, and there were mosquitoes breeding in one corner. The condition of the school’s toilets was also poor, with broken doors, and there was no water available for drinking.

Reprimanding the principal for her negligent attitude, Education Minister Ms Atishi said, “Such a condition of the school is unacceptable and is a result of BJP’s 15 years old legacy in MCD. It is the duty of the principal and school administration to ensure that students receive proper education in a clean and safe environment. The neglect shown towards the school is a reflection of the careless attitude towards the future of our children.”

The Education Minister further added that this state of the school is a clear indication of the apathy shown towards the education of children studying here. “We cannot allow our children to be deprived of proper education due to the negligence of the authorities. I have given an ultimatum to the principal and the school administration to get the school maintained as soon as possible, failing which strict action will be taken against them. The concerned authorities must take this matter seriously and work towards ensuring that all children in MCD schools receive the education they deserve,” said Ms. Atishi.

The Education Minister said that this is the result of BJP’s 15-year rule in MCD schools. The BJP has only worked to destroy schools during its tenure in the MCD. It is evident from the dilapidated classrooms, broken desks, and poor facilities that children’s futures have been played with in the MCD for so many years. But now, under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal, MCD schools will be made better, and every child will receive a quality education.

Adding on, Delhi Mayor Dr Shelly Oberoi said, “The government is committed to providing quality education to all students, regardless of their background. We will not tolerate any compromise on the education of our children. Certainly, in the past 15 years, the BJP did nothing for these MCD schools, but now we will work diligently to make them better. Until then, it is the responsibility of the school administration to pay attention to cleanliness and other basic facilities. The poor state of cleanliness in schools reflects the insensitive attitude of the school administration towards the future of the children studying here, and there is no place for insensitivity towards education in our government.”

It is to be noted that the Education Minister and Delhi Mayor have asked the principal and the school administration to submit an action taken report as soon as possible regarding the maintenance of the dilapidated MCD school in Wazirabad village.
