With the aim of improving Law and Order and dismantling organised crime the AGTF (Anti-Gangster Task Force) was ordered to be set up by the Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann in April 2022. Gangsters were operating until now under the protection of the previous regimes and hence difficult to nab. But with the proactive and committed approach of the AGTF, the task force has successfully nabbed several gangsters. They were thus awarded the Union Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal in November 2022.

These gangs are also associated with illegal mining, terrorism and drug smuggling. The Punjab Government has adopted a multi-pronged approach for ending the drug menace and Punjab Police has made substantial inroads in nabbing drug traffickers. Thus drugs will form part of the big focus for next year, Bhagwant Mann mentioned.
