Dr. Shelly Oberoi, the Mayor, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) chaired a review meeting with councillors and zonal officers of West Zone. In the meeting, the Mayor reviewed the condition of schools, community centres, parks, hospitals, roads, dhalao ghar, FCTS, drains in the zone. The Mayor was apprised by the councillors about various problems like problems arising after delimitation, sanitation issues, problem of stray animals, shortage of staff etc.
In the review meeting, the councillors said that tippers do not come to pick up the garbage in the West Zone proper. After this the Mayor instructed them to visit DC to solve the problems, stating that there will be a review meeting every month.
Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that the objective of the meeting was to understand the local issues of the zone, discuss the major problems with the councillors of the ward and solve them collectively. Similar review meeting will be held every month. She said that the zonal officers have been asked to adopt a zero tolerance policy on corruption.
In the meeting, the mayor instructed the officers to present interim and long-term solutions to the problems. She asked the officers and Councillors to cooperate with each other for the better development of the area. She also asked the councillors to visit their wards to know the problems of the people and carry out an awareness campaign on waste management and educate citizens not to throw garbage in open areas.
The Mayor also directed the officers to present the report of the sanitation workers present in the zone. Along with this, she also sought a report on the contract of the corporation with private vendors for sanitation.
Later in the day, a meeting was also held with the officials of education and parking departments under the Mayor’s leadership.
Dr Oberoi took stock of the working of the education department and parking cell. The mayor asked the officials of the education department to find a solution to deploy security guards in all corporation schools to ensure the safety of the students. The mayor said that lack of funds should not come in the way of providing better facilities to the students studying in corporation schools.
The Mayor instructed the officials of the Education Department to implement reforms taking inspiration from the revolutionary changes being made in the field of education by the world-class education model established by Delhi Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal.
After this, the Mayor chaired a meeting with the officials in charge of MCD Parkings under the Remuneration Projects Cell. According to the information submitted by the department, MCD has 366 parking lots, out of which parking at 312 places is operational. 54 sites are lying vacant and the work of inviting tenders for 67 sites is under process. The department has granted permission to set up 171 milk booths across Delhi out of which 41 milk booths are operational. This time a target of Rs 285.92 crore revenue was set by the department, out of which Rs 189.89 crore revenue has been warned till March 09, 2023.
