Continuing the ground zero inspection amid the ongoing water crisis in Delhi, Water Minister Atishi along with senior officials of the Revenue Department and Jal Board, inspected the main pipeline network carrying water from Sonia Vihar Water Treatment Plant from East Delhi to South Delhi on Thursday. During the inspection, Water Minister Atishi instructed the officials to increase patrolling across the city and if any leakage is found in the main pipeline anywhere, it should be removed immediately.

On this occasion, Water Minister Atishi said that the Delhi government is ensuring through patrolling by ADM and SDM teams across the city that not even a drop of water is wasted due to leakage from the main pipelines. She said that during the water crisis, Delhi is getting less water, due to which the production of water treatment plants has decreased; in such a situation, wastage of water will not be tolerated.

Atishi said that heatwave has been going on in Delhi for the last several days and due to inadequate supply of water by Haryana, the current production of water in Delhi has decreased. At present, Delhi is producing 40-45 MGD less water than the 1000 MGD.

She said as Delhiites are troubled due to water shortage, it becomes necessary to ensure that not even a single drop of water is wasted anywhere. Therefore, the Delhi government has deployed patrolling teams led by ADMs and SDMs in Delhi Jal Board and Revenue Department across Delhi, who are inspecting every main water pipeline network across the city.

The Water Minister said that we are ensuring that not even a single drop of water is wasted due to pipeline leakage in this hour of crisis. She said that efforts are also being made to get additional water from Haryana and Himachal because in the current situation as Delhi is not getting enough water, which has affected the production of our water treatment plants. In such a situation, it is very important that not even a single drop of the water available is wasted, added Atishi.

The Delhi government has deployed all ADM, SDM level officers to monitor water pipelines to prevent wastage of water due to pipeline leakage in the city. For monitoring the main water distribution network, these special teams will monitor the network from the main water source to the water treatment plant and from there to the primary UGR (underground reservoir). During this, if any leakage is found in the major pipelines, it will be repaired within 12 hours and the officers will submit their report to the Water Minister on a daily basis.
