Amidst Delhi’s water crisis, AAP Chief Whip Shri Dilip Pandey has on Saturday written to Union Minister for Jal Shakti CR Paatil, seeking intervention and coordination with North Indian states to provide more water to Delhi.

In view of the situation being critical on the water front in Delhi, the Chief Whip has sought a meeting on behalf of Delhi’s MLAs with the Union minister as early as on Sunday. To tide over the water crisis, an all-out effort has been made by Shri Dilip Pandey by sending the request letter to the Union Minister’s office as well as his residence and to reach the Union Minister over the phone for appointment.

Addressing the media, AAP Chief Whip in Delhi Assembly Shri Dilip Pandey said the water crisis in Delhi has deepened. Every Delhi resident is facing this water shortage. Some people in Delhi are also considering the water shortage as an opportunity to do politics, which is very unfortunate. The Delhi Waer Minister, the entire team of officials, the administrative department of the Delhi Government, all of them are constantly making all possible efforts on the ground to provide relief to the people of Delhi from this unprecedented water crisis. But we all know that this time the heat is unexpected and in such a situation, Delhi’s need for water has also increased, the water consumption in Delhi is also high.

He said the lack of sufficient water in the Yamuna river is not able to match this demand and supply. On our request, the Himachal Pradesh government accepted the release of additional water, but still the lack of sufficient water in the Yamuna is affecting the water production in Delhi. Due to the water pressure being affected, the water supply is getting affected and the result is the water crisis that we are facing. The people of Delhi are suffering due to the lack of water production in Delhi.

Shri Dilip Pandey said keeping this situation in mind, we have written a letter today on behalf of the Delhi MLAs to the recently appointed Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Paatil and requested that if your ministry takes the responsibility of inter-state coordination, then the water crisis looming over Delhi in this scorching heat can be resolved. “Seeing the critical water situation, I have written a letter on behalf of the Delhi MLAs, expecting an urgent intervention from CR Paatil and requested him to give time to the Delhi MLAs to meet tomorrow. Although tomorrow is Sunday, but I do not think that if 2 crore people of Delhi expect the Union Jal Shakti Minister to take out some time from his busy schedule and listen to the pain of the people of Delhi from their representatives, then I do not think that the people of Delhi are asking for too much,” he said.

To ensure that the meeting takes place sooner than later, the Chief Whip said we are sending this letter to the minister’s office, to his house, he will also be contacted over the phone. We will try to get a 5 to 10 minute meeting time with the Delhi MLAs tomorrow because the whole matter is about interstate coordination and there will be no solution without the intervention of the central government, he added.

Shri Dilip Pandey said the BJP government of Haryana is playing politics. Just yesterday I received videos of illegal mining being carried out at Hiranki from Uttar Pradesh on the Yamuna near Burari. There is Pachara village on one side and Hiranki on the other. Just a few days ago, bullets were fired there, and I have several photos and videos which show illegal mining being done there. And when they do this, they stop the entire flow of the Yamuna by building multiple small dams. “So, this is a matter of multiple states, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi, and we request that Union Minister CR Paatil should rise above party politics and intervene in this and provide relief to the people of Delhi from the water crisis in this scorching heat,” concluded the Chief Whip.
