Holding a massive road show at Bhavnagar, Smt Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Delhi Chief Minister and AAP National Convenor Shri Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday appealed to the electorate to ‘recognise the power of your vote and save the country from dictatorship’.
Smt Sunita Kejriwal is in Gujarat to campaign for the INDIA alliance candidates belonging to the Aam Aadmi Party in the absence of her husband Shri Arvind Kejriwal who has been in incarceration since March 21.
She held road shows at two places in Gujarat today. The road shows were held in Botad for INDIA alliance candidate for Bhavnagar Shri Umesh Makwana and in Dediyapada for its candidate for Bharuch Lok Sabha constituency Shri Chaitar Vasava. There was a massive response to the road shows and the crowd could be heard shouting slogans, ‘Desh ke taale tootenge, Kejriwal Chootenge’, ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, ‘Kejriwal Zindabad’ during the road show.
Addressing the gathering during the road show, Smt Sunita Kejriwal said, “They have forcefully put Delhi Chief Minister and my husband Arvind Kejriwal ji in jail for the last 40 days. Like in Gujarat, they had also put Chaitar Vasava and his wife forcefully in jail. No court has pronounced him guilty. They are saying that investigation is on, if the investigation continues for 10 years, will they keep him in jail for 10 years. Earlier, a person would be sent to jail if he was found guilty by a court. Now, they have started a new system that so long as the investigation continues, the case continues, the person will be kept in jail. This is a clear high-handedness, dictatorship.
She said Kejriwal ji is a true patriot, honest and educated person. He did his engineering from IIT and worked as Income Tax Commissioner. But he had to do social service, he left his job and started working in a slum colony. Before marriage, he asked me only one question that if I had any problem if he did social service. They put such a person in jail, said the wife of Delhi Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal.
Reminding the gathering of the India Against Corruption movement, Smt Sunit Kejriwal said, “There was a big movement in 2012, you all know about that movement. He went on a long fast twice, for weeks for the rights of the people. He did not eat anything. He is a diabetic patient, he takes insulin, the doctors advised him not to do so but he did not agree and risked his life for rights of people. When he went to jail, his insulin was stopped. His sugar level crossed 300. It could have damaged his kidneys and liver. After a lot of struggles, court granted permission to administer insulin to him. Dictatorship is going on. Three times Delhiites elected him chief minister. You people also elected 5 MLAs in last Assembly elections. They (BJP) are troubled that why people of Delhi and Gujarat love Arvind Kejriwal ji. You tell me, what is his (Kejriwal’s) fault. His fault is that he made electricity free and available for 24 hours in Delhi; he made excellent government schools where students quality JEE Mains for getting into IIT; made Mohalla clinics where people get quality treatment. He wants to provide the same facilities here in Gujarat, but they put him in jail before the elections so that his voice does not reach you,” she said.
Smt Sunita Kejriwal told the people of Gujarat that at present dictatorship is at its peak in the country. But Arvind Kejriwal is a lion, no one can bend or break him. Arvind Kejriwal is the true son of Mother India. Today this daughter of Mother India requests you, save this country. “This country is heading towards dictatorship. Save Mother India from dictatorship. You guys understand the power of your vote. Everyone must go to vote and press the ‘broom’ button. This time you have to make Umesh Makwana and Chaitar Vasava your MPs. We want to provide all the facilities to the people of Gujarat which are available to the people of Delhi and Punjab. Together we will remove this dictatorship. We will fight together and win,” she concluded.
Smt Sunita Kejriwal greeted with folded hands the crowd assembled to welcome her at the road show organised by the AAP. She was waved back by the crowd as her vehicle passed through the stretch.
Loudspeakers atop the vehicles in the cavalcade of Smt Sunita Kejriwal playing the song “Mera Range De Basanti Chola” filled the air with patriotic fervour. The volunteers waved the flag of the Aam Aadmi Party with blue and yellow bands and the party symbol ‘broom’ along the entire stretch where the road show was held.
