The Kejriwal Government is working on a war footing to connect unauthorised colonies and villages to sewer networks for better sewerage management in the national capital Delhi to clean Yamuna. Under this initiative, Water Minister Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj has approved the project of laying a 25.5 km long sewer line in 11 unauthorised colonies of Sangam Vihar’s Ambedkar Nagar & Deoli assembly. The cost of this project is Rs 26.66 crore. This project was earlier given to a company, but due to a delay in the work, the Kejriwal Government cancelled the work of the company. Now the new agency will be given the project to complete the work at risk and cost for the balance work. With this project, about 3 lakh people in the area will get relief from sewer problems. Water Minister Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj has directed the DJB officials to make the project up to expectations and complete the quality work within the stipulated time.
Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj said, “We are continuously working towards making Yamuna clean and better sewerage management. Under this, a 25.5 km long sewer line will be laid in 9 unauthorised colonies in the Ambedkar Nagar assembly constituency and 2 in Deoli assembly constituency. Due to the non-availability of a sewerage system in the area, the sewage generated from here is currently released into the local ponds, septic tanks, or rain drains, which fall into the Yamuna River from the existing drain. This increases the pollution level of the river. In such a situation, to reduce these water-polluting elements, the Kejriwal government has decided to connect every house in the area with sewage. Sewerage coming out of here will be sent through sewer lines to the nearest Sewage Treatment Plant for treatment, after which the treated water will flow into Yamuna.”
It is noteworthy that a 25.5 km long internal and peripheral sewer line will be laid in the Sangam Vihar Group of Colonies. The work of this project costing Rs 26.66 crore was entrusted to a company named KK Sapna in the year 2018. But the work was delayed by about 5 years by the company. In such a situation, the Kejriwal government has cancelled the work of the company. Now the government has decided to appoint a new agency to complete the work at the earliest. About 56 percent work of the project has been done by the agency. Now the rest of the work will be given to the new agency at risk and cost, that is, its recovery will be done from the previous agency’s bill only.
Water Minister Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj said, “This project of a sewer line in the Sangam Vihar Group of Colonies is an important step towards cleaning the Yamuna river. After the completion of the project, the sewage of these colonies will not fall into the Yamuna.” “Under the able leadership of Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi government is constantly making tireless efforts towards cleaning the Yamuna. Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal has given DJB the responsibility of cleaning the Yamuna by 2025. The way the Delhi government rejuvenated schools and hospitals in the previous tenure, this time the main objective is to clean the Yamuna on a priority basis”, He added.
