Bio
Imran Hussain is the Minister of Food and Civil Supplies, Environment & Forests. Hussain made his electoral debut and defeated his opponent by a margin of 33,877 votes in the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections. He had been active in spreading social and political awareness among the oppressed and underprivileged, especially in the Walled City. As a youth leader, he tried his best to impart social justice to the people in need.
The initiatives taken by Hussain to remedy the situation of Delhi’s environmental problems are commendable. He directed land owning agencies to crack down on burning of garbage and leaves in the open. He also asked them to increase vigil at all sites falling under their jurisdiction and prosecute those violating the orders issued by NGT. He also banned the movement of trucks during peak hours. In addition to that, he took the decision of shutting down the Badarpur and Rajghat thermal plants and made it mandatory for vehicles to have Euro VI standards for vehicular emission from 2017.
In a letter written to Union Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave, he said that there is an urgent need to convert existing wood based crematoria into green crematoria as burning of biomass such as woods, manure among others are the most significant contributors to air pollution in Delhi. “I therefore request the Central government to consider constituting a technical committee for drafting a model policy for creating a standardized design for the green crematoria,” he said, adding that cremation alone accounts considerably to air pollution and across India, each year huge quantity of wood is used in cremations.

Hussain has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Studies from Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi.
