On Tuesday, Women and Child Development Minister Ms. Atishi visited the family of the victim in the Shahabad Dairy murder case and offered her condolences. She assured them of the full support of the Kejriwal government and pledged to ensure justice for the victim. Ms. Atishi emphasized that losing a child is an immeasurable sorrow for any parent. The victim’s parents are seeking justice for their daughter. She expressed concern about the prevailing sense of insecurity among women in Delhi, and said, “Parents in Delhi are grappling with the question of whether they should send their daughters to college and work when girls continue to fall victim of violence on streets. As a woman and a minister of elected government, I earnestly request the LG to fulfill his constitutional responsibility of improving law and order in Delhi instead of hindering the work of CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal, and prioritizing the safety of Delhi’s daughters and women.”
Ms. Atishi said, “There is no greater sorrow for any parent than losing a child.” She mentioned that the victim’s parents only want justice for their daughter. She assured that on behalf of Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal, they will provide the best lawyers to fight for justice for their daughter in court and ensure that the guilty receives the strictest punishment.
She continued, “As a woman and a minister of elected government, I would like to appeal to the Lieutenant Governor that the Constitution of our country has entrusted the responsibility of law and order and security in Delhi to him. However, he is spending all his time hindering the work of CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal. If the Lieutenant Governor had fulfilled his constitutional responsibility instead of hindering the work of the CM, the situation of law and order in Delhi would not be as it is today.”
The WCD Minister shared that the incident occurred with the victim yesterday in the Shahabad Dair area, and today another similar incident took place at Majnu Ka Tila where a girl was murdered. She mentioned that every day there are cases of violence, abuse, and even rape against girls in Delhi. The Minister questioned the Lieutenant Governor and asked what significant steps he has taken to improve the police system during his more than a year-long tenure in the Delhi LG office.
She stated that even today, women in Delhi do not feel safe when they step out of their houses during the night. All parents in Delhi have the same question- how can they send their daughters to colleges and offices where they are at risk of being murdered on the streets? “As a woman, I want to appeal to the Lieutenant Governor to fulfill his responsibilities and ensure the safety of Delhi’s daughters and women”, she added.
