NEW DELHI:
In the wake of his nomination filing on May 4, 2024, AAP and INDIA Alliance candidate for the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat, Shri Somnath Bharti, has taken the decisive step of resigning from several prominent positions. This includes his membership in the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), vice chairmanship of DJB, and a non-official membership of the Board of Visitors to Delhi Prisons, signaling his full commitment to the electoral process, because at the time of filing nomination, the candidate can’t hold no office of the profit as mandated by the constitution of India. Though as per the laws of the land, these posts don’t fall in the category of offices of profit but Shri Somnath Bharti has opted to resign from these posts because seeing the present bias of the election commission of India (ECI) in favor of the BJP, he doesn’t want to give any opportunity to BJP to misuse the power of election commission as the same has been misused in Surat and Indore in canceling candidature of opposition parties of the BJP.
Tendering his resignation, INDIA Alliance candidate from the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat Shri Somnath Bharti writes, “Glad to inform that I will be filing my nomination on 4.5.2024 for member of parliament from the New Delhi parliament constituency election which is scheduled on 25th of May 2024.”
He further writes, “At present, I am member authority, DDA, vice chairman of Delhi Jal Board (DJB), and a non-official member to the Board of Visitors to Delhi Prisons, duly nominated by Delhi Legislative Assembly.”
Shri Somnath Bharti mentions, “To facilitate my nomination and since at the time of filing nomination the applicant can’t hold any office of profit, notwithstanding the fact whether these offices qualify to be offices of profit or not and to ensure that there is no such confusion and also in view of visible bias of election commission to favor BJP on one or the other flimsy ground, I am resigning from this post with immediate effect.”
“Kindly accept my resignation from all posts with immediate effect and issue a certificate certifying that my resignation stands accepted with effect from the time when I have submitted this letter to your office,” his letter concludes.
