The Mayor of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Dr Shelly Oberoi visited World Book Fair 2023 on Sunday. The Mayor visited various exhibits at the fair, taking note of the literature on display.
On her visit, Dr Oberoi also saw Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh’s Jail Diary. The 100 year old Jail Diary was put on display by the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Brigade to spread the message of his struggle. The Mayor also visited the Constitution exhibit, and read excerpts of the handwritten constitution copy.
On the occasion, Dr Shelly Oberoi stated, “I feel fortunate to have witnessed Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh and Babasaheb Ambedkar’s preserved works so closely. Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh and Babasaheb’s ideals inspire millions of us to work for the society with utmost devotion.”
Later in the day, Dr Oberoi attended 5th E.K. Nayanar Memorial Football Tournament as the Chief Guest of the event. The event was organised by Janasamskriti Foundation at the Ambedkar Stadium to promote the sport in Delhi.
At the event, the Mayor met with all the young athletes and wished them success in their careers. Addressing the players, she said, “Such self driven initiatives are the need of the hour to promote sporting activities across the country. The AAP Government of Delhi is relentlessly working on promoting sports as a discipline. The government has developed the Delhi Sports University with the aim of making sports a way of life through specialised education. In the MCD too, we aim to walk on the same path and build a conducive environment for promoting sports activity.”
