On Thursday, Environment Minister Shri Gopal Rai stated that a large number of Delhiites participated in the awareness campaign. The campaign is being run at red light intersections in all assembly constituencies today as part of the ‘Red Light On, Gaadi Of’ campaign launched by the Arvind Kejriwal government to reduce vehicular pollution. Under this, Delhiites were appealed to switch off their vehicles at traffic signals. The Environment Minister said that Delhiites must encourage their peers, friends and acquaintances to play an active role in reducing the pollution by switching vehicles off while waiting at the traffic signals at major intersections. The purpose of the ‘Red Light On, Gaadi Off’ campaign is to reduce air pollution by preventing excess vehicular pollution at red lights.

Earlier, Shri Gopal Rai initiated the ‘Red Light On-Gadi Off’ campaign at the red lights of Barakhamba Road and ITO intersection in Delhi and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Shri Imran Hussain made people aware at Chandgi Ram Akhara Red Light on October 30th. Today an awareness campaign is being run at red light intersections in assembly constituencies.

Shri Gopal Rai mentioned, “At assembly constituencies People gave a call to the drivers to turn their vehicles off at the red light by giving them roses. During the visit, Hand Banners were also displayed with the CM’s appeal to Delhiites, in which the CM has appealed to commuters to turn off their vehicles when the red light is on.”

While interacting with people, the Environment Minister stated, “Delhiites have done commendable work previously, and I am confident that they will defeat pollution this time as well. On November 3, an awareness campaign on air pollution among school children will be conducted through 2000 Eco Clubs in Delhi. I will also participate in this awareness campaign at Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya, Raj Niwas Marg. The Delhi government has taken several important steps to curb air pollution in Delhi, including tree transplantation policy, setting up of green war rooms, anti-dust pollution campaign, electric vehicle policy, other campaigns like ‘Red light on, Gaadi off’ etc. The Delhi government is the first state government in the country to come up with a solution to stubble burning using bio-decomposers.

Shri Gopal Rai stated that the Delhi Police have made efforts to stop the ‘Red Light On, Gaadi Off’ campaign at some places. It is unfortunate. Due to increasing cold and low wind speed in Delhi, the AQI in Delhi has increased. It remains around 350. In such a situation, it is unfortunate to stop the campaign. The detention of MLAs Shri Jarnail Singh and Shri Haji Yunus and other Delhi people during this campaign by the police shows insensitivity.
