The Kejriwal government is geared up to deal with any situation arising due to the increasing cases of Corona in Delhi. With the current positivity rate in the national capital exceeding 10 percent, the government is leaving no stone unturned in its preparations.
In an effort to review the situation, Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal will be holding a meeting with the Health Department tomorrow at 12 noon. The meeting will include a presentation of the results of the mock drill, which will be shown to the Chief Minister. The officials will also be sharing information on how other states are dealing with the increasing number of COVID-19 cases and the impact it has had on their citizens, during the meeting. Despite the high positivity rate, the government has urged citizens not to panic, as tests are being conducted in small numbers. The government has also assured the public that it is taking all necessary measures to contain the spread of the virus and provide timely medical attention to those in need.
Health Minister Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj emphasised the need for early detection to curb the spread of the virus. Speaking on the issue, he shared information about the daily sewage testing being conducted in Delhi to detect any signs of the virus. “We have been testing the sewage in Delhi for the last two-three weeks, and we have been getting signs of corona,” he said. “Early detection is key in curbing the spread of the virus, and we are leaving no stone unturned in our efforts to detect any potential outbreaks,” he added.
The Minister also referenced the advisory issued by the central government, which highlighted six states where COVID-19 cases are increasing, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka. He noted that there is a pattern to the spread of the virus in metropolitan areas, such as Mumbai and Delhi, with cases often increasing in Delhi a few weeks after a surge in Maharashtra. As both cities are major hubs for international travel, Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj urged citizens to continue following COVID-19 guidelines and protocols to prevent further spread of the virus.
The Health Minister also shared that an emergency meeting was held with the officials of the Health Department to tackle the rising cases of COVID-19 in Delhi. The meeting was called on the instructions of Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal. The meeting, attended by virologists, epidemiologists, genome sequencing experts, the Director General Health Services, Special Secretary Health, and other senior officials of the Health Department, closely observed the current situation of COVID-19 in Delhi. The situation is being monitored daily by the Health Department.
During the meeting, hospital administration was instructed to maintain its preparations with full promptness. If needed, the number of COVID-19 beds can be increased to several thousand using the resources of the hospitals and its surroundings, as was done during the previous surge in cases.
The government has urged citizens to remain calm and follow COVID-19 guidelines and protocols to help curb the spread of the virus. The Health Department is closely monitoring the situation and will take all necessary measures to contain the spread of the virus and provide timely medical attention to those in need.
The Health Minister has assured citizens that despite the current positivity rate of COVID-19 tests in Delhi being over 10 percent, there is no need to panic. He explained that due to the low number of tests being conducted, the positivity rate is higher. However, citizens are still urged to remain cautious and follow COVID-19 guidelines and protocols.
Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj emphasised the importance of wearing masks for those with flu-like symptoms or those visiting hospitals. He added that the Kejriwal government had already conducted a mock drill to review the preparations regarding oxygen cylinders and LMOs within Delhi. Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal will hold a review meeting with the Health Department regarding the COVID-19 situation in Delhi tomorrow at 12 noon. The meeting will include a presentation of the results from the mock drill and an update on the preparations made in other states regarding COVID-19 and its effect on the people. The CM is expected to give directions to the state government based on the meeting’s findings.
