Delhi’s beloved Chief Minister, Shri Arvind Kejriwal, finds himself embroiled in a distressing ordeal orchestrated by the BJP and the Modi government during his incarceration. Despite being elected by the resounding mandate of two crore Delhiites, CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal is being stripped of his fundamental rights in jail, at the behest of the Modi administration.
Senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sanjay Singh, vehemently condemned the deplorable treatment meted out to CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal in jail. The jail administration’s decision to allow only a glass wall meeting for CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal’s wife, Smt. Sunita Kejriwal, and Bhagwant Mann, while notorious criminals enjoy face-to-face encounters, highlights the blatant discrimination. As the boundaries of injustice are pushed further, the citizens of the country are poised to respond resolutely to such abuse, tyranny, oppression, and arrogance, casting their verdict through their votes.
Shri Sanjay Singh held a press conference at the party headquarters on Saturday regarding the stripping of rights of CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal in jail. “Despite being elected to jail with a massive majority three times and being the Chief Minister of Delhi with the mandate of two crore people, such retributive harassment is being committed against Shri Arvind Kejriwal at the behest of the Central Government and PM Modi. An attempt is being made to openly deprive him of even the minimum rights and facilities available in jail, which has never happened in the history of Tihar Jail, and it is being done under the leadership of PM Modi,” he added.
The AAP Rajya Sabha MP continued, “Rules 602 and 605 of the jail state that anyone can have a face-to-face meeting, and this right belongs to the jail administration. Shri Arvind Kejriwal’s wife and family are worried and distressed while he is imprisoned. His parents are ill. In such a situation, when Smt. Sunita Kejriwal files an application to know about Shri Arvind Kejriwal’s well-being, she is told that she cannot have a face-to-face meeting. She cannot sit in a room for a meeting. She has to sit across a glass wall for a meeting. Look at the history of Tihar Jail, people are allowed to have face-to-face meetings. However, it is said with the intention of humiliating the Chief Minister of Delhi and breaking his morale that the meeting will be through a glass wall. Whereas, even meetings with notorious criminals in Tihar Jail are held face-to-face.”
“When our lawyer applied for my and Punjab’s CM Sardar Bhagwant Mann’s meeting with CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal, he was given token number 4152. However, just one night before the meeting, we received an email stating that the meeting cannot be held at such short notice due to security reasons. This means that when we applied for the meeting, the jail administration and PM Modi were not aware of who Punjab CM Sardar Bhagwant Mann is? But when it was said under rules 602 and 605 of the jail that meetings of both elected Chief Ministers should be held, it was also said that both meetings would be through a glass wall. I want to ask the Tihar Jail administration, the Prime Minister of India, and the Home Minister of the country to give an example or a name since Tihar Jail was established, of meetings held with elected Chief Ministers like this,” the AAP Senior Leader affirmed.
Shri Sanjay Singh mentioned, “I know that many people’s meetings in Tihar Jail are conducted physically, even in offices. Even meetings with the biggest criminals are comfortably conducted. But you talk about holding meetings of the three times Chief Minister of Delhi and Punjab CM Sardar Bhagwant Mann through a glass wall. The Tihar Jail administration canceled my meeting. Now only the meeting with CM Sardar Bhagwant Mann is being arranged, and that too through a glass wall. I am a Delhi MP, and I am not allowed to meet the Chief Minister of Delhi in Delhi’s jail. You have turned the country into a spectacle. You have thrown the country’s rules, laws, and constitution into the trash can. The people will respond to this abuse, tyranny, oppression, and arrogance.”
The AAP Rajya Sabha MP shared, “In this same jail, Subrata Roy of Sahara used to have meetings via the internet, phone, office facilities, etc. In this same jail, Chandra Brothers used to have regular meetings and sign many documents. Those they wanted to meet, were allowed to meet them. But in this very Tihar Jail, efforts are being made to break Shri Arvind Kejriwal’s morale. He is being humiliated at every moment. Prime Minister, the people of Delhi’s two crore and the entire country’s population will hold you accountable for your tyranny, dictatorship, and oppression. That’s why we say, ‘Jail ka jawab vote se’.”
“Shri Arvind Kejriwal is the person who kicked the job of the IRS and took the pledge of serving the country. When it boiled down to the principles, he even resigned from the Chief Minister’s post within 49 days and now such treatment is being meted out to him in jail. PM Modi and Amit Shah, both of you, do not indulge in the work of snatching constitutional, democratic, legal, and jail rights. Do not try to register your name as ‘Hitlerism’. Because as many Hitlers as there have been in the world, the whole world knows that their end was also bad,” Shri Sanjay Singh concluded.
