The Aam Aadmi Party launched a scathing attack on the BJP over the murder of a 23-year-old girl by a youth in broad daylight in the Malviya Nagar assembly constituency on Friday. The AAP stated that incidents of murder continue to occur relentlessly in Delhi, and they blame Union Home Minister Amit Shah and LG VK Saxena for proving unsuccessful in providing security to the people of Delhi. Notably, a woman was murdered in Delhi’s Dabri on Thursday, and another girl was killed on Friday, just 100-150 metres away from the Malviya Nagar police station. Responding to this shocking incident that occurred in broad daylight, Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “Another daughter was brutally murdered in Delhi; it is profoundly sad that law and order has become such a pressing issue in Delhi. I request LG sir and Home Minister to proactively engage the police force. The safety of the daughters of Delhi and the people of Delhi is of paramount importance.”
AAP senior leader and MLA, Shri Somnath Bharti, addressed a press conference at the party headquarters, expressing deep concern over the tragic incident. He said, “This was a tragic incident where a 23-year-old girl, Nargis, was killed by a boy wielding an iron rod at around 11:45 pm in DDA’s Vijay Mandal Park, which falls under my Malviya Nagar assembly constituency. Nargis was murdered. This incident has shaken the entire city of Delhi. The disheartening fact is that the murder occurred just 100-150 meters away from the Malviya Nagar police station. Even at 10:00 am, the park sees around 500-600 people walking, and security guards stationed in the DDA park, about 10 meters away from the scene, were present at the time of the incident. The occurrence of a broad daylight murder in such a place reflects the audacity of the criminals and indicates a serious issue with their morale.”
Shri Somnath Bharti stated that one should not politicize such occasions, but the facts should not be ignored either. Those who have been entrusted with responsibility will be questioned. Shri Bharti said, “Yesterday, a woman was shot in Dabri, and this morning, a girl was killed in my constituency. Similarly, the incidents in Manipur and Unnao reflect a concerning mindset, where the morale of criminals seems to be soaring in BJP-ruled states or where the police come under the BJP’s authority. Criminals feel a sense of impunity as if there’s no one to hold them accountable. The way the BJP provided security to Brij Bhushan Singh makes it apparent that their slogan of Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao is somewhat of a hoax.”
Shri Somnath Bharti emphasised that the women and daughters of Delhi want to question the Prime Minister. Shri Bharti continued, “They did not elect 7 MPs from the BJP with the expectation of incidents of violence against women while the Prime Minister remains silent like “Mouni Baba.” According to the constitution, Law and Order, Police, and Land in Delhi are under the Central Government’s control, i.e., the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister. The responsibility to ensure a crime-free and safe environment for women in Delhi lies with the Center’s representative, LG VK Saxena. However, no significant actions seem to be taken from the LG’s side. The Modi government, to whom the people of Delhi have entrusted their responsibility, appears to be lacking in fulfilling it. On the other hand, there are attempts to curtail the rights that the people of Delhi have not handed over to Modi ji, by introducing an ordinance. Such a process by the BJP is claimed to be for strengthening the country.”
Shri Somnath Bharti expressed grave concern over the repeated attacks on women across the country and criticised the Prime Minister for seemingly prioritising politics over these pressing issues. He pointed out that the PM remains silent on incidents in Manipur and Brij Bhushan but finds time for political rallies in Rajasthan. He added that despite the burning issues, there appears to be a lack of engagement in Parliament, and those who raise their voices are ousted. Shri Bharti said, “It is disheartening to witness the neglect of responsibilities regarding law and order, police, and land, which the people of Delhi have entrusted to Shri Arvind Kejriwal by both Modi ji and the LG. Such inaction is very unfortunate, and the increasing crimes against women are evident to the people of Delhi and the entire nation, yet the Modi government appears unresponsive. This state of affairs is indeed saddening.”
