Higher Education Minister Ms Atishi attended the orientation of National Law University, Delhi on Sunday. She congratulated students and parents for making it to one of the most prestigious law universities across the country. While interacting with the students and motivating them to utilize the 5 years of college meaningfully, Ms Atishi said, “These five years will give an opportunity to all the students present here to explore their intellectual potential, broaden their horizons, and acquire not only legal knowledge but also critical thinking skills that will shape them into compassionate and responsible legal professionals. You must make the most of this time, engage in rigorous studies, participate in extracurricular activities, and contribute to society positively. Your journey at this esteemed institution will be transformative, equipping you to bring about positive changes in the legal landscape and society as a whole.”
She added, “I believe that during the 5 years of a law degree, it is crucial to keep in mind the profound significance of our country’s constitution. India attained independence in 1947, and one of its remarkable achievements was granting the right to vote to individuals at the age of 18. Following India’s lead, many nations also extended the right to vote to women after that. Our Constitution has been an inspiration for many countries across the globe.”
“The Indian Constitution written by Dr. B.R Ambedkar is more than just a book; it embodies a dream for many, irrespective of their caste, religion, region, or language. It promises equality and justice for all citizens of the country,” she added.
The Higher Education Minister said, “The ultimate objective of students sitting here should be to contribute towards ensuring equal justice for every individual in the nation. After completing these five years of education and leaving this institution, the responsibility lies with each one of you to work towards building a better, fair, and egalitarian society using the legal education you have received.”
As a government, it is our responsibility to ensure all world-class facilities for students and students’ responsibility is to work hard to contribute towards the nation with their expertise, she added.
For the academic year 2023, about 20,000 students appeared in the competitive examination – All India Law Entrance Test (AILET). 123 students have joined through merit. This includes students from 18 states of India and foreign students from the USA, Canada, and Nepal. There are 51 female and 72 male students in this year’s batch.
