Questioning the candidature of his BJP opponent Bansuri Swaraj, the Aam Aadmi Party senior leader and Lok Sabha candidate for the New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency Shri Somnath Bharti has accused her of helping escape financial fraud fugitive Lalit Modi from India.
BJP candidate for the Lok Sabha election from the New Delhi parliamentary constituency represented cricket administrator Lalit Modi. As the founder chairman and League Commissioner of the Indian Premier League, Modi is accused of committing financial fraud in the cricket tournament.
Addressing media persons, Shri Somnath Bharti said the Bharatiya Janata Party has made several efforts to prove itself a patriot, but it is not able to do so. “Just as we have asked questions here many times, the answer does not come. Earlier also we have tried to ask such things to the BJP through you, but we have not received any response. So today, I will ask some specific questions,” he said.
The AAP parliamentary candidate said as you know, the BJP cancelled the ticket of its minister Meenakshi Lekhi from New Delhi Lok Sabha seat, who was an MP and minister from this area for 10 years. Her ticket was cancelled, and Bansuri Swaraj was given the ticket. There is a big question on how her candidature was finalised. “Everyone knows that Lalit Modi betrayed the country, committed a scam worth thousands of crores of rupees in the country and today he has fled the country to escape the law. So, who helped in this escape, who became the medium for this escape, who advocated for him in the court, her name is Bansuri Swaraj. In fact, Lalit Modi thanked Bansuri Swaraj through tweet,” said Somnath Bharti, adding that between 2012 and 2014, Bansuri Swaraj became Lalit Modi’s lawyer, so much so that even before the decision of the double bench, his passport was renewed, and he was sent away from here.
Questioning the candidature of Bansuri Swaraj, the AAP senior leader said it is a matter of great concern that the Bharatiya Janata Party has given the responsibility of Lok Sabha of New Delhi to such a person. “Today, I want to ask her five questions through you. The first question is whether Lalit Modi is an honest man according to Bansuri Swaraj. The second question is whether Bharatiya Janata Party had asked her to help Lalit Modi. The third question is whether defending a person like Lalit Modi is not treason. The fourth question is that how many thousands of crores of rupees did Lalit Modi defraud the country of and what was her (Bansuri Swaraj) share in it. And the fifth question is whether she is still helping Lalit Modi to stay out of the clutches of Indian law,” he said. These five questions are to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s New Delhi Lok Sabha candidate Bansuri Swaraj, which she should answer, concluded Shri Somnath Bharti.
