Today, in honour of International Women’s Day, a seminar program based on the theme “Role of women in the freedom movement” was organised by the General Administration Department at Delhi Secretariat. Delhi’s General Administration Minister, Shri Gopal Rai, was present as the chief guest on occasion. During the programme, freedom fighters and professors and scholars from various colleges of Delhi were also involved. An exhibition of portraits of women freedom fighters who contributed to the freedom movement by various artists was also organised in the programme.
The chief guest of the seminar program, General Administration Minister Shri Gopal Rai, while addressing all the present guests, said, “The role of women in the freedom movement is commendable. Women have marched ahead and given their martyrdom on various occasions while doing important work by joining shoulder to shoulder with men in the freedom movement.” Throughout the programme, Shri Gopal Rai spoke in-depth about the contributions made by dozens of women who were crucial to the struggle for freedom. He said, “If women are empowered, then only the nation will be empowered. Innovation and development of the nation is possible only with the participation of women.”
Shri Gopal Rai continued, “Thousands of women in Indian history have sacrificed their lives in the freedom movement, about which people are still not aware. Now the need is to present the contribution of all those women freedom fighters to the world afresh.”
In this seminar, students presented their research papers about the personality of the women freedom fighters and their contributions. Scholars such as Arshiya Anand, Nikhil Yadav and Kerkar Devika Arun from JNU, Sonal Mehta and Amardeep Singh Sandhu from GGSIPU, Akanksha and Bharti from Dr. BR Ambedkar University, and Swayam Mehrotra, Faizan Mokim and Aarti Iyengar from Jamia Millia Islamia University presented their respective papers. Apart from this, various professors from National Archives, Ambedkar University, Laxmi Bai College, PGDAV College, Janaki Devi Memorial College and Jamia Millia Islamia were also included as jury members for the seminar.
