Delhi Home Minister Shri Kailash Gahlot today chaired a review meeting to discuss the preparedness of Delhi Fire Services keeping in view the upcoming hot weather season. The majority of fire incidents occur during the peak summer season.
The Home Minister instructed the officials to be ready to deal with any untoward situation and said “None of us would want to face a fire situation at home or any place but we need to always be prepared for any such situation. In Feb 2023, our fire department worked on 29,400 minor and major incidents in the city saving thousands of lives. They have a very tough task on their hand and I am happy they have been able to deliver it well all these years. I would also like to urge all building owners, for all eligible constructions, to get Fire Safety certificates. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal, we are committed to continue our good work for all the citizens of Delhi ensuring safety and better life.”
As reported, maximum Fire incidents occurred during peak summer seasons in slum areas of Delhi. It becomes very challenging for Delhi Fire service to reach and even enter the fire-affected areas due to highly congested places.
After great deliberation on the matter, it has been decided that besides the establishment or construction of a new fire station at Geethanjali, modern technology, equipment, or appliances shall be procured for the safeguard and also to improve response time in the present traffic scenario. The budget of Rs.252.5 crores has been allotted in the current financial year 2022-2023 for the same.
In view of the above, DFS director informed the Minister that the case of procurement of new modern and advanced fire safety equipment like hydraulic platform, rapid responder, rescue, tender remote operated, SF machine, robot and turntable ladder etc. is in process.
