A delegation of five MLAs from the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Estimates Committee arrived in Delhi to study the Mohalla Clinic and Government school models of the Kejriwal government. They assessed the facilities and services available during their two-day tour. The MLAs from Meghalaya praised the education and health models implemented by the Delhi government, particularly the opening of Mohalla Clinics for the treatment of the underprivileged. They applauded the commendable and remarkable work carried out in the government schools by the Delhi government.
A delegation of members from the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Estimates Committee visited Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya in Kishan Ganj, followed by a tour of the Mohalla Clinic located at Kashmere Gate. Shri Rajesh Gupta, Chairman and MLA of the Estimates Committee of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, accompanied the members and legislators from Meghalaya on their visit to schools and the Mohalla Clinic. During the visit, they observed how doctors operate in the Mohalla Clinic and learned that retired doctors are now providing their services at the clinic. The doctors attend to patients from 8 am to 2 pm. The committee members also toured the schools and visited classrooms, laboratories, and the school clinic, where they interacted with the children.
Shri Rajesh Gupta, Chairman of the Estimates Committee of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, said, “It is fortunate that the discussion on the education and health models of the Kejriwal government is taking place worldwide, and people want to witness it. In line with this, a delegation from the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Estimates Committee visited Delhi to observe the government schools and Mohalla Clinics. They visited the government schools and observed that the classrooms are equipped with smart boards. The schools have excellent seating arrangements for the students, and CCTV cameras are installed on the school premises for security purposes. They witnessed how the system of government schools can be transformed, as demonstrated successfully in Delhi’s government schools.”
On the premises of these schools, special school clinics also operate for the benefit of children. These school clinics maintain data of all the children studying inside the school. This record also includes information on which children are struggling with diseases related to iron deficiency, eyes, or teeth. Along with this, there are also psychologists present inside the schools who conduct groups sessions and refer them to higher centres if required. All these facilities are being provided completely free of cost by the Delhi government and made available to the children within the school premises.
Shri Rajesh Gupta added, “After visiting the schools, the delegation of Meghalaya’s legislative party arrived to see the neighbourhood clinics of the Delhi government. Near this neighbourhood clinic, there is also a night shelter where some needy individuals reside who do not have their own homes and face difficulties in getting meals. However, the Delhi government is providing such facilities to every person in a way that if they have any kind of trouble, they can come to this neighbourhood clinic without hesitation and get their treatment. There is no such program in the whole world, but the Kejriwal government in Delhi has taken remarkable steps. The members of the Meghalaya delegation and legislative party have come to Delhi to see and understand it.”
Shri Syiem added, “While touring Delhi’s government schools, we have witnessed significant changes in Delhi’s schools. We had visited Delhi’s schools before, and now, as we observe them, we can see considerable transformations. We also witnessed how schools have impacted the lives of students. Delhi’s government schools have been implemented in various ways to benefit children from economically disadvantaged families. We interacted with teachers and students at the schools to learn about the initiatives taken by the government. Digital classrooms have been established in Delhi’s government schools, CCTV cameras have been installed for security purposes, and school clinics have been set up for the health of the children. We will strive to replicate the efforts of the Delhi government in our state to bring such significant changes in the field of education.”
Shri Syiem further said, “Delhi has adopted an excellent model in the field of healthcare, similar to education. We visited the neighbourhood clinics in Delhi and observed how the Delhi government is working on providing healthcare facilities to underprivileged and needy individuals at the grassroots level. We should also adopt this healthcare model. Soon, we will address this issue in our state and establish such clinics, reducing the crowd in hospitals and enabling treatment for minor illnesses at the neighbourhood clinics.”
Expressing gratitude to the Delhi government and the Estimates Committee of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Shri Syiem stated that he highly admired Delhi’s education and healthcare models. He said, “The Delhi government has truly accomplished commendable and remarkable work in schools. Similarly, establishing neighbourhood clinics in various locations is a commendable step, benefiting many people. We will make efforts to implement similar good initiatives in Meghalaya, following the excellent work done by the Delhi government in the government schools and neighbourhood clinics, for the welfare of the people of Delhi.”
