Water Minister Atishi’s ‘Jal Satyagraha’ hunger strike has reached its fourth day, with a growing number of Delhi residents, AAP MLAs, and councilors rallying at the protest site. Despite her deteriorating health, Minister Atishi remains resolute in her fight for Delhi’s rightful share of water. Addressing supporters, she vowed to continue the protest until the BJP-led Haryana government restores water supply to 28 lakh Delhiites.
Notably, Water Minister Atishi is on an indefinite ‘Jal Satyagraha’ in Jangpura’s ‘Bhogal’ from June 21 to ensure that the people of Delhi get their water right. On Monday, Cabinet Minister and AAP Delhi State Convenor Gopal Rai, MLA Sahiram Pehalwan, Gulab Singh, Vishesh Ravi, Praveen Deshmukh, Prakash Jarwal, Ajay Dutt, Naresh Yadav, Ram Singh ‘Netaji’, District Incharge Dharmveer Awana and Sanjay Patola, Councilor Manju, Raju Nirmal, Hema, Mahendra Chaudhary, Rakesh Lohia, Umesh Phogat, Arun Navaria, Pinky Naresh Tyagi, Mamta, Pawan Pratap, Kajal, Jitendra and a large number of Delhi people reached the hunger strike site and encouraged the Water Minister.
Water Minister Atishi, who is on an indefinite ‘Jal Satyagraha’ in Jangpura’s Bhogal, told the people of Delhi on Monday that today is the fourth day of her indefinite hunger strike. I am on a fast because there is a huge shortage of water in Delhi. For the last 3 weeks, Haryana has reduced the supply of 100 MGD (46 crore litres) of water to Delhi. This 46 crore litres of water is used by 28 lakh people in a day. Due to not getting enough water from Haryana, 28 lakh Delhiites are yearning for every drop of water. My indefinite hunger strike will continue until the Haryana government does not release the water that is the right of these 28 lakh Delhiites.
The Delhi Water Minister continued, stating, “On Sunday, the doctors examined my health and told me that my blood pressure, sugar level and weight are decreasing, while the ketone level has increased significantly. The doctors have advised that such a rise in ketone levels is dangerous and can have a long-term negative effect on the body. It can harm health. No matter how bad my health is, no matter how much pain my body is in, my resolve to fast is firm and until 28 lakh Delhiites do not get water, my indefinite fast will continue.”
As soon as it won all the seven seats in Delhi, BJP became arrogant and stopped the water supply of Delhiites from Haryana: Gopal Rai
AAP Delhi State Convenor Gopal Rai said that the people of Delhi made BJP win all the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. As soon as it won all seven seats, BJP’s arrogance reached the seventh sky. Delhi does not have its own water. Delhi gets water from Himachal Pradesh through Haryana. But as soon as it won the election, BJP in connivance with its Haryana government stopped Delhi’s water supply. MLA Sahiram Pehalwan said that during the water crisis in Delhi if the BJP people had worked with the AAP and talked to the Haryana government instead of doing the ‘Matka Phod Andolan’, the water problem would have been solved. But the BJP movement has increased this water crisis further. These people protest at the Delhi Jal Board office for several hours, due to which the officers stop working and everything comes to a standstill. Water tankers are supplied to many areas of South Delhi, but for the number of hours these people protest, not even a single tanker is supplied. The BJP should not forget that the people of Delhi have made their seven MPs win. We are with Atishi in this struggle. If needed, all of us MLAs are also ready to go on hunger strike.
