· Cooperation agreement on Environment, Air Pollution, Culture, Tourism & Heritage, Education and Youth Exchange agreed upon

The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) and Fukuoka Prefectural Government (FPG) signed the MoU/Friendship Agreement on Tuesday January 16, 2018 in New Delhi.
The signing was done between the Chief Minister of Delhi Mr. Arvind Kejriwal and Governor of Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, Excellency Hiroshi Ogawa.
The event was attended by the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Mr. Manish Sisodia, UD Minister Mr. Satyendar Jain, Transport Minister Mr Kailash Gehlot and Environment Minister Imran Hussain. Hon’ble Speaker Mr Ram Niwas Goel and Deputy Speaker Ms Rakhi Birla also graced the occasion. The event was also attended by the Chief Secretary of Delhi Mr. Anshu Prakash, Finance Secretary Mr. SK Sahai and other senior officials of the Government.
Fukuoka Prefecture was represented by the Governor of Fukuoka Excellency Hiroshi Ogawa, Chairman of Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly Excellency Akira Higuchi and senior leaders of the Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly.

The twin city agreement signed proposes agreement in the areas of Environment, Air Pollution, Culture, Tourism & Heritage, Education and Youth Exchange between Delhi and Fukuoka. The period of twinning is for three years w.e.f. 01.04.2017 till 2020. The first MoU/Friendship Agreement between Delhi and Fukuoka was signed in March 2005 and was done for the second time in March 2012.
Speaking at the ceremony of signing of the Friendship agreement, the Chief Minister of Delhi said, “We are here together on this evening to take forward the MoU/Friendship Agreement between Fukuoka Prefectural Government (FPG) and the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD). I am happy to note that, today, in our proposed agreement, areas of cooperation have been mutually emphasised by FPG and GNCTD in order to get the maximum benefit for both Delhi & Fukuoka. These are: Environment & Air Pollution; Culture, Tourism and Heritage; Education and Youth Exchange.”
“We hope to harness our further potentials in the spheres of environment and air pollution, being a major issue of concern with us today. We would like to have more exchanges of school, college and university students. We have the example of a fruitful partnership in the inception of the Delhi Metro and we hope to expand this cooperation in other modes of transport and their multi-modal integration. I hope our endeavours today will further strengthen Delhi – Fukuoka ties as well as India – Japan friendship,” said the Chief Minister.
Earlier, a delegation of the Fukuoka Prefecture Government called on the Chief Minister of Delhi at the Secretariat for a courtesy call. The delegation comprised of Governor of Fukuoka Prefecture Excellency Hiroshi Ogawa, Chairman of Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly Excellency Akira Higuchi and other members of the Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly.
The delegation was personally welcomed by the Chief Minister at his office in presence of Deputy Chief Minister, Urban Development Minister and the Chief Secretary of Delhi.
