EFC approves construction of first of its kind Delhi govt sports hostel at Pitampura

Deputy Chief Minister & Finance Minister Mr Manish Sisodia headed Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC)  of the Delhi government has approved the construction of a Sports Hostel for school boys & girls at GP Block, Pitampura, New Delhi, at an estimated cost of Rs 77.62 crore.

It will be first of its kind and state of the art sports training facility of the Delhi Government which will also have residential facility for sportspersons. The total area that will be developed under this project will be 11,128 Sq. Mtrs.

Total estimated cost involved in this project is around Rs 77.62 crore and development work will be carried out by the DTTDC in a phased manner. The work is expected to be completed within 24 months.

This project will cater to swimming and gymnastics training needs of students and will also be utilized as competition venue for prestigious events.

This facility will have all weather swimming pool on ground floor and there will be gymnastic hall having all equipments above the swimming pool on the first floor.

Along with sports training facility, hostel for both boys and girls will also be developed which will have a total accommodation of 412 students. While the boy’s hostel building will be of ground plus seven floors, the girl’s hostel building will be ground plus five floors. Hostel will have all necessary facilities including mess, recreational room, etc so that all aspects of overall development of student are taken care of.

Delhi has topped the medal tally in the National School Games in the year 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18. This year also Delhi has grabbed first position in National School Games having won 478 Gold medals, 294 Silver & 265 Bronze (Total 1037 medals) till date. The initiatives like Pitampura Sports Hostel taken by Delhi Government will not only consolidate but will surely improve the excellent performance of Delhi school students at every level.
