Education Minister Ms Atishi on Thursday visited an MCD school in New Friends Colony and attended the Mission Buniyaad class with the students. During the visit and interaction with students and teachers, she boosted their morale. Additionally, the Education Minister gave instructions for monitoring the learning progress of each child and emphasised the need to provide customised learning based on their individual learning requirements.
Adding on she said, “The process of transformation has begun in the MCD schools now. Following this MCD schools are now focusing on creating a conducive learning environment for every child studying in them.” She added that in the past 15 years, BJP always neglected MCD schools and disregarded the efforts of teachers but now the atmosphere of schools is changing with the new government.
While encouraging the teachers, the Education Minister said that children sitting in these classrooms are the future of the country. In order to strengthen the future of the country, it is necessary to strengthen the foundation of these children. For this, it is necessary for teachers to take the lead and always inspire every child in their class to learn better. It is only by taking these actions that the objectives of Mission Buniyaad will be accomplished.
Ms. Atishi emphasised that each child should be given equal opportunity to learn better and encouraged to improve foundational skills. “It is now our responsibility to give them that opportunity and ensure that they have equitable learning levels as their counterparts in other schools while leaving from here,” she said.
She stated that Mission Buniyaad was initiated to bridge the learning gap among children. Under this mission, children participate in classrooms of different levels. The objective is to take students from the basic level to the advanced learning levels. Merely relying on bookish knowledge is not sufficient to achieve this. Students should be provided with an environment where they can learn through play.
During a visit, the Education Minister observed unique methods of teaching in a Hindi class where children formed words using play-cards, and an English class where interactive activities were used. The Minister praised the teachers, stating that their efforts would lead MCD schools to a future where every child meets the designated learning benchmark.
Preparations for Mission Buniyaad in new session
This year, various approaches have been implemented in DIET and MCD schools to strengthen the foundational skills in children and bridge the learning gaps for students from third to eighth grade.
-> Students from grades 3 to 5 are being prepared to read short stories fluently, without hesitation, while students from grades 6 to 8 are being equipped to read advanced stories seamlessly. This will help them in understanding their textbooks. Additionally, all students will be taught the skill of summarizing.
-> Attention is focused on activities that help children read fluently with unfamiliar words, write without errors, comprehend local values clearly, and understand and solve high-order mathematical problems related to multiplication and division.
In addition, a nodal team led by senior officials from SCERT, DoE and MCD has prepared a joint curriculum strategy to monitor children’s progress meticulously. Training sessions have also been organized by SCERT for principals, teachers, mentor teachers, and Mission Buniyaad coordinators from schools under the DoE and MCD.
