New Delhi: Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Manish Sisodia interacted with the students of Shaheed Bhai Baal Mukund (SBBM) Government Sarvodya Vidyalaya in Civil Lines, New Delhi. The purpose of the interaction was to discuss the benefits of the Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojna with the students and to encourage them to pursue prestigious career options with the help of this scheme. Meritorious students from marginalised and economically weaker sections of the society have heaved a sigh of relief after Delhi Government decided to extend financial support to them, helping them get enrolled at premier coaching institutes needed to prepare for competitive examinations like JEE, IAS, NEET, etc in New Delhi.

The scheme that has been implemented through the Department for the Welfare of SC/ST/OBC/Minorities, is an effort to provide quality coaching to economically and socially disadvantaged students of Delhi.

Addressing the gathering of students, teachers and SMC members present at SBBM Government Sarvodya Vidyalaya here on Friday, Deputy CM Shri Manish Sisodia said, “You show us the spark to learn and compete, and we will help you get closer to your dream. The spirit to excel should already exist within you. And we will assist you in getting all the resources that you need. You don’t have to be demoralised, thinking that you cannot afford the fees of a particular coaching institute. We are working to support you and that is why the Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojna is so important for all of us.”

The scheme which was launched last year was aimed at aiding hard working students by providing free coaching fro Group A and B examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), premier entrance examinations like IIT JEE, NEET, CAT, CLAT, etc. The Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojna which was earlier aimed at providing financial assistance to only SC/ST students will now include OBC and general candidates from EWS categories as well. Delhi Government also increased the sum provided for financial assistance from Rs 40,000 to Rs 1 lakh for eligible students.

The interactive session conducted today was for the purpose of spreading awareness about the scheme in Delhi government schools. The first session taken by the Deputy CM Shri Manish Sisodia today will be replicated by School Management Committee in all Delhi Government Schools state-wide.

A UPSC aspirant and a student of Class 12th, Yash said, “I want to become an IAS officer. I have researched about coaching institutes where I would like to apply to prepare for civil services. Earlier I could not even imagine taking coaching as the fees are so high. But now with the help of this programme, I can easily take admission in these coaching institutes.”

Shri Manish Sisodia said, “Our effort is to realise the shattered dreams of the parents and the children who cannot pay the fees charged by these institutes. But these students are really hard working and have the spark to compete in these exams. We are committed to help you by erasing those financial hurdles”
