Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia conducted an on-ground inspection of the Basti Vikas Kendra located in Block 6, Khichripur on Thursday. Upon inspecting the facility, the Deputy Chief Minister found that the Basti Vikas Kendra had remained closed for a long time and the locals of the area were not able to utilise it for their events. During the inspection, Shri Manish Sisodia found that the centre also required renovation. He directed officials to work immediately on all aspects of the Centre’s repair and open it out for the general public within a week, so that citizens can use it as they did before and organise various community events & programs in the facility.
On this occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia said, “this Basti Vikas Kendra had remained closed for a long time and there was public demand for it to be opened for community events & programs and for the use of citizens living nearby so that the facility could be utilised to its full potential. Taking immediate cognizance of this demand, the Basti Vikas Kendra is being opened again. In this regard, officials have been directed to renovate the facility, make all necessary repairs and open it out for the use of the general public within a week.”
The citizens of the locality were overjoyed with the decision to reopen and renovate the BVK. People said that the Basti Vikas Kendra had remained closed for a long time but it is a matter of great joy that the Deputy Chief Minister took cognizance of this issue, and instructed officials to open it out by taking necessary and prompt action. People said that they will benefit a lot from its opening and there will be no need to go far for organising community events & programs.
It is noteworthy that this Basti Vikas Kendra in Khichripur was allocated to an NGO for operations and maintenance. It was not being run properly and with due care by the NGO, due to which the facility had remained closed for a long time.
*What is Basti Vikas Kendra*
Basti Vikas Kendras have been set up by the Delhi government in various slum clusters of Delhi. The objective of the government through these centres is to provide space for various social events as well as facilities for the people living in localities nearby. Various Upskilling initiatives for slum clusters also run through partnerships at several Basti Vikas Kendras.

उपमुख्यमंत्री मनीष सिसोदिया में गुरुवार को खिचड़ीपुर, 6 ब्लॉक स्थित बस्ती विकास केंद्र का निरीक्षण किया| यहाँ उपमुख्यमंत्री ने पाया कि बस्ती विकास केंद्र लम्बे समय से बंद है और स्थानीय लोग अपने आयोजनों के लिए इसका इस्तेमाल नहीं कर पा रहे है| निरीक्षण के दौरान श्री सिसोदिया ने पाया कि इस केंद्र को मरम्मत की भी जरुरत है| इसपर उन्होंने अधिकारीयों को निर्देश दिए कि केंद्र के मरम्मत के सभी पहलुओं पर तुरंत काम करते हुए 1 सप्ताह के भीतर इसे आम जनता के लिए खोल दिया जाये ताकि लोग पहले कि तरह इसका उपयोग कर सके और विभिन्न आयोजन कर सकें|
इस मौके पर उपमुख्यमंत्री मनीष सिसोदिया ने कहा कि,ये बस्ती विकास केंद्र काफी समय से बंद था और जनता की मांग थी कि सामुदायिक-सार्वजानिक कार्यक्रमों व आस-पास के नागरिकों के उपयोग के लिए इसे खोला जाये ताकि जनता इसका बेहतर ढंग से उपयोग कर सकें| उन्होंने कहा कि जनता कि इस मांग पर तुरंत संज्ञान लेते हुए बस्ती विकास केंद्र को वापिस खोला जा रहा है| इस बाबत अधिकारीयों को निर्देश दिए गये है कि जरुरी मरम्मत करते हुए सप्ताह भर के भीतर इसे आम जनता के लिए खोल दिया जाए|
आसपास की जनता इससे काफी खुश है| लोगों ने बताया कि लम्बे समय से यह बस्ती विकास केंद्र बंद रहा है लेकिन ख़ुशी कि बात है कि उपमुख्यमंत्री ने इसपर संज्ञान लेते हुए अधिकारीयों को त्वरित कारवाई करते हुए इसे खोलने के निर्देश दिए है| लोगों ने कहा कि इसके खुलने से हमें बहुत फायदा होगा और कार्यक्रमों के आयोजन के लिए कहीं दूर जाने कि जरुरत नहीं होगी|
बता दे कि खिचड़ीपुर स्थित ये बस्ती विकास केंद्र पहले यह एक एनजीओ को संचालित करने के लिए दिया गया था| एनजीओ द्वारा इसका सही से संचालन नहीं किया जा रहा था और जिस कारण यह बस्ती विकास केंद्र काफी समय से बंद था|

दिल्ली सरकार द्वारा दिल्ली के विभिन्न स्लम क्लस्टर में बस्ती विकास केन्द्र बनाये गये है| इन केन्द्रों के माध्यम से सरकार का उद्देश्य यहाँ रहने वाले लोगों को विभिन्न आयोजनों के साथ-साथ सुविधाएँ उपलब्ध करवाने के लिए स्थान प्रदान करना है| कई बस्ती विकास केन्द्रों पर विभिन्न साझेदारियों के माध्यम से स्लम क्लस्टर में लोगों के अपस्किलिंग का काम भी किया जाता है|
