Amidst a record-breaking heatwave and a drastic reduction in Yamuna water supply from Haryana, Delhi’s Kejriwal administration is all geared to ensure adequate water supply so that city residents don’t have to face any inconveniences. Delhi Water Minister Atishi braved the scorching heat to ensure the city’s preparedness. Conducting on-site inspections of three Underground Reservoirs (UGRs) at Ramlila Maidan, Dilli Gate, and Jhandewalan, as well as the IP Estate tanker filling station, Minister Atishi instructed Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials to take all necessary measures to prevent water shortages and ensure that Delhiites do not face any problems during these unprecedented times.
During these inspections, Water Minister Ms. Atishi assessed the critical situation caused by the decreasing Yamuna water supply from Haryana and record-breaking temperatures. She inspected UGRs to gauge the current water levels across various regions of the national capital. Additionally, she held discussions on the challenges posed by the severe heat waves and reduced water supply, ensuring that measures are in place so Delhiites do not suffer from these adversities.
During these inspections, Minister Atishi also visited the IP Estate tanker filling station and issued urgent directives for immediate tanker dispatch to the most severely affected areas. She commanded officials to be fully prepared to handle any water crisis during these challenging times, ensuring that Delhiites do not face any hurdles.
From her inspections of the UGRs, Water Minister Atishi shares a few snippets on her ‘X’ handle, quoting, “During the heatwave, there is water shortage in many places in Delhi due to less water being released by Haryana. To ensure smooth water supply, Ramlila Maidan UGR, Delhi Gate UGR, Jhandewalan UGR and IP Estate tanker filling station were inspected. Officers were instructed that people should face minimum problems…”
Notably, during these adverse times, the Kejriwal government is taking all necessary measures to ensure its citizens do not face inconveniences.
