Delhi Water Minister Atishi has embarked on a journey of resilience and hope. As the scorching sun beat down on Saturday, marking the second day of her indefinite fast, Minister Atishi’s message to the people of Delhi echoed with steadfast determination. She vowed that her fast would not end until 28 lakh Delhiites received their rightful share of water from Haryana. In the face of this pressing crisis, her sacrifice stands as a powerful testament to the fight for justice, and to secure the basic rights of people.

To secure Delhiites’ rightful share of water and mitigate the current crisis, Delhi Water Minister Atishi sought Lord Shiva’s blessings at a Shiv Mandir in Bhogal. She circumvented the Shivlinga while offering water to Lord Shiva and prayed for the well-being of Delhiites during this challenging time.

In her message, Water Minister Atishi said that there is a huge shortage of water in Delhi. In this scorching heat, when Delhiites need more water, there is a shortage of water here. Delhi does not have any of its water. All the water that comes here comes from neighboring states.

The Delhi Water Minister continued, stating, “A total of 1,005 MGD water comes to Delhi. Out of this, 613 MGD water comes from Haryana. But for the last several weeks, Haryana has been continuously giving only 513 MGD water. That means Haryana is sending 100 million gallons per day (MGD) less water. 1 million gallons of water supplies water to 28,500 people. That means if Haryana is giving 100 MGD less water, it means that more than 28 lakh Delhiites are not getting water. 28 lakh Delhiites are yearning for every drop of water.”

Minister Atishi further added that she tried every possible way. But when the Haryana government did not agree to give water in any way, she had no choice but to go on a hunger strike. The people of Delhi are in so much pain, and so much distress, that they are craving every drop of water. That is why she has been on a hunger strike since yesterday. “I asked for all the data from Delhi Jal Board this morning but there is still a water shortage today. Yesterday, 110 MGD less water came from Haryana throughout the day. This means that more than 28 lakh people will not be able to get water today,” she added.

“I will sit on this hunger strike until the Haryana government provides water to the people of Delhi. This hunger strike will continue until 28 lakh people of Delhi get water from Haryana,” Minister Atishi concluded.
