DTU organised an Alumni Meet for Golden and Diamond Jubilee batch students of Delhi College of Engineering on Friday, 8th of February, for the first time to create a bridge between alumni and the young students. The Deputy Chief Minister & Education Minister of Delhi, Shri Manish Sisodia attended the ceremony as chief guest & interacted with the alumni.
He congratulated the alumni for making the meet a success by coming & wished them a revival of golden memories as the alumni are to visit their old campus today. Addressing the gathering of alumni, most of whom are either working on top positions, or are leading prominent firms across the world. “The journeys of how the most successful entrepreneurs coming out of DTU must be shared. It’s not the romanticism with the story but the impact it can have on the students who would imbibe an entrepreneurial attitude & be inspired by the struggle. DTU has given to you a lot, you are giving a lot to DTU, it is time for your stories to touch the lives of the students to create a bigger change.”
Deputy CM, Shri Manish Sisodia gave glimpses of Delhi govt. institutions, initiatives and organisations and their efforts in trying to uplift education with innovation and research. He also urged many alumni to participate actively in DTU activities and help make it a world class university in all aspects.
The meet was attended by alumni from all across the world. 70 alumni from the Golden Jubilee Batch and 5 from the Diamond Jubilee batch participated in the event. The event was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Manish Sisodia in the presence of honourable Vice Chancellor Dr. Yogesh Singh.
There gathering was welcomed by Prof. Anu Singh Lather the vice chancellor of DTU. She spoke about the university development, alumni development, establishment of alumni office, and most importantly the donation which was done by them. The total amount given to DTU by the alumni as donation was 6.2 crores, this contribution by the alumni is expected to be to the tune 10 crores by the year end.
The Vice Chancellor talked about entrepreneurship and provided data on how a number of alumni of our institution have generated employment and become job providers rather than job seekers. The vice chancellor also appreciated the efforts of Shri Sisodia for the betterment of the education in Delhi. The vote of thanks was given by Prof. Pravir Kumar, Dean (Alumni Affairs).
