With an objective to create mass awareness about the environment and making Delhi as a clean and green city, the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Shri Manish Sisodia inaugurated the 31st three days Garden Tourism Festival showing glimpse of Delhi’s Horticultural verities at the garden of five senses at Said-ul-Ajaib in capital today.
This traditional festival has been organized for the last 30 years in the spring season every year. Earlier Delhi Tourism has organized this festival of flowers at different places in the capital such as Talkatora Garden, India Gate Lawns, etc. The underlying theme of this year’s festival is “Grow Garden: Save Delhi”. The Garden of Five Senses was filled with fragrance and aroma of nature, thousands of blooming flowers, hundred kinds of bougainvilleas and hundred kinds of bonsai plants were seen adding to beauty to the nature.
Inaugurating the festival, Shri Sisodia said that the practice of gardening and planting trees plays a pivotal role in enhancing relationship of human being with nature. He appealed the Residents Welfare Associations (RWAs) and Welfare societies to visit the garden tourism festival and take up the subject in a more systemic way to make better standard of living. He said that gardening is a simple activity which endows greater levels of satisfaction. This would be beneficial not only for the self but also for the society as a whole.
Shri Sisodia said that everybody is concerned about fighting with the pollution and cleansing the air but it can only be insured through planting trees and growing gardens.

Shri Sisodia stressed upon the need for organizing more garden festivals alike and at a much larger scale in order to set examples for developing a sustainable urbanised city.
Shri Sisodia released a beautiful souvenir with details of the festival of the seasonal flowers on this occasion. He also planted a tree in the garden on this occasion. Ms. Varsha Joshi, Secretary, Tourism, General Manager, Shri C. Arvind and a number of experts of horticulture were present on this occasion.
The 22 acre venue for Garden of Five Senses is a spectacular and worth seeing place for public leisure and which has more than 325 species of plants. These varieties range from commonly available to exotic ones. Some of the attractions of the serene place include court of palm, court of cactii, herbal garden, tree museum, topiary garden, Zen garden, aromatic garden and butterfly zone. Number of sculptures and murals have also been set up to embellish the place.
The Garden Tourism Festival is a great platform for garden lovers to meet, interact and showcase their fruit of labor. The major participants during the festival are the horticulture departments of NDMC, EDMC, DJB, DDA, SDMC, Northern Railways, Manav Rachna University and others. There will be competitions organized in 30 categories such as potted plants, Dahlia, Hanging Baskets, Foliage Plants, Cactus and Succulents, Aromatic / Herbal and Medicinal Plant, Bonsai Plants of different specifications, Bougainvillea, Floral Animal, Tray Garden, Theme Garden, Annual cut flowers in earthen vases, Vegetables Flower Decoration, Flower arrangements and roses etc.
The festival shall remain open for the public from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm on all three days. Delhi Tourism will also provide free shuttle service from Saket Metro Station to the venue and back.
