The BJP has devised a new conspiracy to create an artificial water crisis just before Delhi is about to vote in the Lok Sabha elections, according to senior AAP leader and Delhi’s Water Minister Atishi. She revealed that the BJP, through its Haryana government, is deliberately restricting water supply to Delhi to incite panic among residents ahead of the May 25 vote. The Delhi Water Minister urged Delhiites not to fall for this ploy, asserting that the BJP is attempting to tarnish AAP and Shri Arvind Kejriwal’s reputation after foreseeing a loss on all seven seats in Delhi. She noted that since May 11, Haryana has reduced water flow, causing the Yamuna’s level to drop to 670.9 feet instead of the required 674 feet. Assuring the public, Ms. Atishi stated that the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is ramping up tanker supplies and extending borewell operation times. She asserted that they’re writing a letter to the Haryana government, and if needed then prepared to take legal intervention.
Senior AAP leader and Delhi Delhi Water Minister Atishi stated that ever since the announcement of Lok Sabha elections has been made in our country, the BJP has realized that the people of Delhi and the people of the country are very angry and disappointed with their work of 10 years, whether it is skyrocketing inflation or unemployment of youths. The people of Delhi and the country have made up their mind that they are going to oust the BJP government this time and give all the 7 seats to the INDIA alliance. This is the reason why the BJP has started planning one after another conspiracy against Shri Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP ever since the announcement was made.
Ms. Atishi said that as soon as the elections were announced, within 5 days, Shri Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) without any evidence. They arrested him believing that now the AAP would no longer be able to campaign and would then lose the seats of Delhi and Punjab. But it was a blessing, a miracle that the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Shri Arvind Kejriwal. When he came out of jail, the BJP became even more frustrated. When they saw the love of the people of Delhi for Shri Arvind Kejriwal, the way people came in huge numbers to meet him, the BJP started planning more conspiracies.
“First, they tried to make false allegations against Shri Arvind Kejriwal by using Ms. Swati Maliwal. When that conspiracy failed, they brought up almost a decade old donation case against the AAP and said that they will file an ED case because the AAP has taken foreign funding. When this allegation also did not work, the BJP has now hatched a new conspiracy to target the AAP and harass the people of Delhi before the 25th May, the day of election. Under this conspiracy, the BJP has stopped the water supply from Yamuna to Delhi using its Haryana government. They have done this to harass Delhiites and create a water crisis in Delhi by stopping the water supply,” the Delhi Water Minister stated.
Exposing the latest conspiracy of the BJP, she stated that for the last few days, we have been receiving complaints regarding water shortage in certain areas, even from places where there were no such issues reported before. On investigation, we found that Yamuna water was being stopped by the Haryana government. The level of the Yamuna River at a normal time in Wazirabad is 674 feet, even when it declines, its lowest point is 672 feet. But continuously from May 11 to May 21, Haryana has been gradually stopping Yamuna water from coming to Delhi. The water level was at 671.6 feet on 11th May and it remained at this level for 3 days till 13th May; on 14th and 15th May it was 671.9 feet; on 16th May it dropped down to 671.3 feet; from 17th to 20th May it was 671.1 feet; and on 21st May it further declined to 670.9 feet.
“I believe that perhaps this is the first time in the history of Delhi that the water level of Yamuna has dropped below 671 feet. These figures make it clear that before the voting phase on May 25th, the BJP is now hatching a new conspiracy by stopping the water supply, to trouble the people of Delhi, to create a water shortage in Delhi, and to blame the AAP and Shri Arvind Kejriwal.”
“I want to caution the people of Delhi that in the coming few days till 25th May, such conspiracies will be continued by the BJP to distract the voters of Delhi. But I want to warn you that you must not fall prey to these conspiracies of the BJP. I want to tell the BJP that no matter how many conspiracies you hatch now, you will not be able to fool the people of Delhi. They have seen how in the last 10 years all the promises made by PM Narendra Modi turned out to be ‘jumlas’ (empty promises). And on the other side is Shri Arvind Kejriwal, who kept more promises than he made. This time the people of Delhi are going to give all the seven seats to the INDIA alliance”, she asserted.
The Delhi Water Minister shared, “We will immediately write a letter to the Haryana government on the decreasing water level in the Yamuna. If necessary, we will file an urgent application in the court. Because looking at the water level data of the Yamuna for the last 10 days, it is very clear that the water level of the Yamuna has never been so low in Delhi. This is being intentionally done exactly 5-7 days before the elections. We will first write a letter to the Haryana Government today. If no action is taken on our letter, then we will also approach the Supreme Court.
“Yamuna’s water from Haryana comes to Wazirabad and from Wazirabad, it goes to the rest of the water treatment plants in Delhi. After this, water is supplied to different parts of Delhi from these water treatment plants. Since the Haryana government is conspiring and not sending water to Delhi, it is affecting many parts of Delhi. In view of the increasing water crisis in Delhi, the government has taken several measures. On Tuesday, we have ordered the CEO of Delhi Jal Board to increase water tankers within 24 hours. Wherever water is supplied from borewells, the borewells which used to run for 16 hours, their average time is being increased to 22 hours,” Ms. Atishi concluded.
