A large part of Delhi witnessed a power cut on Tuesday afternoon due to the failure of the National Power Grid. A fire at the sub-station of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited located in Mandola, Uttar Pradesh caused the power cut. Delhi gets 1200 MW of electricity from here.
Regarding this worrying failure of the National Power Grid, Delhi Power Minister Ms. Atishi has sought time to meet the newly appointed Union Energy Minister Shri Manohar Lal Khattar and the Chairperson of PGCIL (Power Grid Corporation of India). Sharing this information, she said that the consequences of such failure of power infrastructure due to the National Grid in the country’s capital can be very serious. We will meet the Union Energy Minister and the Chairperson of PGCIL and demand that such a situation should not arise again in the country’s capital.
“The Delhi government has always tried to provide electricity 24×7. A few weeks ago, the peak power demand of 8300 MW was also met without any blackout. But today there was a power cut in Delhi due to the National Power Grid and we will take immediate action on this,” Minister Atishi said.
Sharing the information, the Delhi Power Minister mentioned that, from 2:11 pm in Delhi, there was a major power cut in many parts of Delhi, especially in East Delhi and ITO, Sarita Vihar, Sukhdev Vihar in South Delhi and many other areas. This happened because a fire broke out in a substation of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited located in Mandola, Uttar Pradesh. Delhi gets 1200 MW of electricity from here. Due to this, the supply was affected and this caused power cuts in many parts of Delhi.
Regarding this worrying failure of the National Power Grid, Minister Atishi has sought time to meet the newly appointed Union Energy Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and the Chairperson of PGCIL to ensure that such a situation does not happen again. The power transmission of the entire country is run by the Central Government. Very little electricity is produced in Delhi and Delhi buys electricity from other states of the country for its electricity needs which comes to Delhi through NTPC and PGCIL. It is very worrying that today the national level power infrastructure of our country has collapsed.
“Delhi is the national capital. If the power infrastructure in the country’s capital fails like this on behalf of the National Grid, then it can have very serious consequences. Delhi has always tried to provide electricity 24×7. A few weeks ago, when the peak power demand reached 8300 MW, even then Delhi fulfilled it without any blackout or major power failure. Today there is a power cut in Delhi due to the National Power Grid and we will take immediate action on this,” Minister Atishi concluded.
