The Chief Minister of Delhi, Shri Arvind Kejriwal today said that his priority is to upgrade Public Health and Education in the capital by giving special focus and allocating the major share of budget. He wished that if the people of Delhi are provided with better healthcare and good education, they will become self dependent and descent citizens, who can ensure all-around development and progress of the society and the country. Shri Kejriwal was speaking, while inaugurating the “Delhi Smiles”- Dental Health Utsav, 2017” at Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS) in the capital today. Minister of Health, Shri Satyandar Jain presided over the function, while Chief Secretary, Delhi, Shri Anshu Prakash, Principal Secretary, Health, Shri Raajiv Yaduvanshi and the Director of MAIDS, Dr. Mahesh Verma were the guests of honour.

The Chief Minister inaugurated the Dental Utsav, 2017 – “Delhi Smiles” by cutting the ribbon and lighting the lamp. Shri Kejriwal also released the year book of the institute and planted saplings for promoting Clean Delhi – Green Delhi. Shri Kejriwal also awarded the 7 faculty members along with their teams with mementos for their excellence.
Shri Kejriwal exhorted the need for informing and awaring people about the preventive aspects of dental diseases. He said that Dental Diseases and general health go hand in hand. For example Oral health and heart disease are connected by the spread of bacteria – and other germs can spread from your mouth to other parts of your body through the blood stream. People with diabetes are at special risk for severe gum disease or periodontal disease which also affects the bone that holds the teeth in place. Severe gum disease can lead to painful chewing difficulties and even tooth loss.
The Chief Minister congratulated the Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences for achieving the rank of no.1 Dental Institution in India for the last 5 years due to hard work, dedication, care and concern of the faculty members, doctors and para medical staff. He said that it is the center of excellence and delivers comprehensive dental care to more than 1500 patients daily. Shri Kejriwal wished people of Delhi remain healthy and smile.
Shri Kejriwal said that the health and education sector i.e. Government schools, educational institutions and Government hospitals & dispensaries were neglected with the result the private hospitals and private educational institutions promoted and progressed, legging behind the Government Schools and Govt. Hospitals.
He said we have allocated maximum budget for up-gradation of health and education and the result is evident as the environment, infra-structure and the education system in the schools and the health care facilities in the hospitals and dispensaries have been improved and transformed.
The Chief Minister said that his Government is preparing the legal frame work to nail the private hospitals for committing criminal negligence and cheating on the pretext of wellness and healthcare of the people.
The Minister of Health, Shri Satyandar Jain has planned to develop 5 more MAIDS (Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences) and 100 Dental Clinic in Delhi for the ease and use of people.
The Chief Secretary, Shri Anshu Prakash, congratulating the entire team of MAIDS expressed his hope that the MAIDS will keep on achieving excellence and will not break the record of its’ rank 1 in the country.
