The Tihar jail authorities lied in the court while opposing the plea of Delhi Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal for consultation with his diabetes specialist and the use of insulin as the resistance is not based on any input from a diabetologist or endocrinologist but on the advice of a dietician, said Cabinet Minister and Senior AAP Leader Ms. Atishi.
Addressing the media here today, AAP senior leader Ms. Atishi said CM Arvind Kejriwal ji had filed an application in the Rouse Avenue Court to consult his doctor and his diabetes specialist through video conferencing and that he wanted to start insulin again. This application was opposed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Tihar Administration of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The ED’s lawyers appeared in the court and said that Arvind Kejriwal should not be allowed to meet his doctor. The Tihar administration’s lawyer, who appeared on behalf of LG Saab, said that we will not allow Arvind Kejriwal ji to do video conferencing with his doctor, we oppose it. He said that we oppose insulin to Arvind Kejriwal ji, he said that Arvind Kejriwal ji does not need insulin. In the argument he presented in the court, he opposed doctor consultation through video conferencing and opposed the need for insulin. He said in the court that we have talked to the doctor of the AIIMS, the doctor of the AIIMS will tell what Arvind Kejriwal ji needs. The doctors from the AIIMS are the best doctors in the country, so if they are saying that Arvind Kejriwal ji will follow the correct diet chart, then neither does he need to talk to his doctor, nor does he need to talk to a specialist doctor, nor does he need insulin. This point was made by the ED of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Tihar administration of the Bharatiya Janata Party, she added.
Calling the bluff of the Tihar authorities that their stand was based on the consultation of Shri Arvind Kejriwal with the AIIMS doctor, Ms Atishi said, “Today I want to tell you the truth about the AIIMS doctor. When ED and Tihar administration presented the side of AIIMS doctor, they had not arranged for consultation of Arvind Kejriwal ji with any doctor of AIIMS. They had not taken him to any doctor of AIIMS, no doctor of AIIMS visited the Tihar jail to give him consultation. No diabetologist gave him consultation. As we showed you his (DG Tihar) letter yesterday, till two days ago, he had not made the request for the diabetologist to the AIIMS. So, the first thing he (the lawyer) said while standing in the court was that we have consulted AIIMS, but they did not show Arvind Kejriwal ji to any diabetologist of the AIIMS.”
The AAP senior leader said the advice given by the AIIMS as filed by the Tihar administration in the court was not prescribed by a diabetologist but by a nutritionist, who is not a qualified doctor. Showing the diet chart prescribed by a nutritionist that has been filed in the court, Ms. Atishi said, “Secondly, this paper was filed in the court by the Tihar administration that senior doctors of AIIMS, the diabetes specialist of AIIMS has prescribed the diet chart for Arvind Kejriwal ji and if he follows this diet chart, he will not need insulin. Based on this paper of AIIMS, he opposed Arvind Kejriwal ji’s insulin. Who made this diet chart, was it made by the diabetologist of AIIMS, was it made by the diabetes specialist of AIIMS? No. If you look at this diet chart, it was not made by any diabetologist, it was just a standard diet chart the ED brought from the Nutrition Department (Department of Dietetics) of AIIMS. You look at this diet chart, it is not written Department of Diabetes or Department of Endocrinology, it says Department of Dietetics and the people signing this diet chart tell us that they have consulted top doctors of AIIMS. You see, Dr. Parmeet Kaur, who signed this, is not a diabetologist, not an endocrinologist, she is a dietician.”
The AAP senior leader said we all know that dieticians are not MBBS doctors. Even Parmeet Kaur ji’s own LinkedIn profile shows that she is not an MBBS doctor, she has MSc and PhD in nutrition and dietetics. She must be a senior nutritionist, she must be qualified in the field of dietetics, but will Arvind Kejriwal ji who is the Chief Minister of Delhi, has diabetes for 30 years, whose sugar level is above 300, whose sugar level had fallen to 45 in ED custody, is the ED consulting AIIMS? Is the Tihar administration conducting consultation with AIIMS? “So, the papers that the Tihar administration and the ED have submitted in the court today clearly show that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s ED and the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Tihar administration are trying to mislead the court and the country. And a conspiracy has been hatched so that Arvind Kejriwal ji cannot talk to his doctor, cannot get insulin,” said Ms. Atishi.
The AAP senior leader said no doctor in the world will tell you that sugar level above 300 can be controlled without insulin injection. “But a conspiracy is hatched to mislead the court. The court is given the reference of the AIIMS doctor, but no consultation took place, no diabetologist’s diet chart came, no diabetologist’s prescription came. And the Bharatiya Janata Party says that Arvind Kejriwal Ji doesn’t need insulin,” she said.
In response to a reporter’s question whether these points have been raised in the court, Ms. Atishi said, “Of course, we have made it very clear that we should have the right for Arvind Kejriwal ji to consult his specialist diabetes doctor. Arvind Kejriwal ji’s diabetes is not a small thing, he has diabetes for 30 years, he takes 54 units of insulin daily; his sugar level is crossing 300, one day his sugar level had fallen to 45 during his custody. His weight had reduced by 5 kg in just 11 days. Such fluctuations, whether in weight or sugar level, can be very serious for any diabetic patient; for any severe diabetic patient, it can be fatal. So, it is an absolute joke that without seeing any diabetologist, without consulting any diabetes specialist, such diet charts are being submitted in the court and citing them it is being said that Arvind Kejriwal ji does not need insulin,” she said.
