The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) says that the BJP’s anti-Dalit face has once again come to the forefront. The BJP has now approached the court to take away the jobs of sanitation workers who are made permanent in MCD. AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar criticized the BJP, saying that before the elections, AAP’s National Convenor Shri Arvind Kejriwal gave a guarantee to make these workers permanent. The AAP government fulfilled that guarantee, which the BJP can’t digest. In 15 years, the BJP couldn’t achieve this, while Shri Arvind Kejriwal demonstrated this in just 8 months during his government. When the BJP is in power, they don’t work, and when they are out of power, they don’t let anyone work. Meanwhile, MLA Rohit Mehraulia stated that no matter what the BJP does, the AAP and our government stand firmly with the sanitation workers.
MLAs — Kuldeep Kumar and Rohit Mehraulia — held an important press conference at the party headquarters on Wednesday regarding the sanitation workers made permanent in MCD.
Kuldeep Kumar said that every year on Diwali, we used to hear that sanitation workers from the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) had to protest on the streets for their salaries and bonuses. Even then, they wouldn’t receive their wages. For the past 15 years, the BJP, which has been in power in the MCD, has only oppressed sanitation workers and kept them in distress regarding their salaries, bonuses, and job security. During the MCD elections, AAP’s National Convener Shri Arvind Kejriwal gave a guarantee to sanitation workers that if the AAP’s government came to power in the MCD, no sanitation worker would have to face hardships to receive their salaries. Keeping their promise, the AAP government in the MCD now ensures that all sanitation workers receive their salaries in their bank accounts on the first of every month. It’s the month of Diwali, and all employees have received their salaries in their bank accounts. Additionally, CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal has announced a bonus for them.
Kuldeep Kumar revealed that Delhi’s CM announced that nearly 5,000 sanitation workers are being made permanent. We expressed our gratitude for this decision. As long as the BJP remains in power, they don’t get any work done. And when they’re out of power, they don’t let anyone else work. When we made these 5,000 sanitation workers permanent, the BJP couldn’t accept it. They are scared of how Shri Arvind Kejriwal could do in eight months what they couldn’t do in 15 years.
“I want to tell Delhi’s sanitation workers that if BJP’s people come to your streets, ask them how a task that they couldn’t accomplish in 15 years, Shri Arvind Kejriwal achieved in just 8 months? Why does this hurt them so much that they had to take this matter to court? The BJP didn’t work on providing jobs during their tenure but focused on job layoffs. Today, when CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal has made them permanent, the BJP is going to court to prevent it. Today, the real face of the BJP is exposed. The entire Valmiki community should see how the BJP has become an obstacle to your progress.”
MLA Kuldeep Kumar challenged the BJP and said, “I want to tell the BJP that while you are going to court, we will go to every street in Delhi. We will stage massive protests but won’t let the appointments of sanitation workers be stopped. These 5,000 sanitation workers will remain permanent. BJP can do whatever conspiracies they want.”
During this time, Trilokpuri MLA Rohit Meharulia mentioned that after 15 years of BJP’s ill rule, when last year the AAP’s government was formed in the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), the people of Delhi breathed a sigh of relief. The sanitation workers were the happiest because, for the past 15 years, the BJP had only deceived them. The BJP didn’t make these sanitation workers permanent. At this point, CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal became a savior and made these 5,000 sanitation workers permanent. It was a magnificent Diwali gift for the sanitation workers, and it brought a wave of joy among them. However, the BJP didn’t see it this way and took this matter to court. This shows that their mentality is anti-Dalit.
Rohit Mehraulia continued, “The BJP can do whatever they want, but every MLA, councilor, worker of the AAP, and our government under CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal is standing with these sanitation workers. We will fight for their rights and interests to the very end. This has been going on for a while. There are two aspects to it. When under the BJP’s rule, these workers didn’t receive their salaries for months, they had to resort to strikes out of desperation, and garbage would pile up on Delhi’s streets. This time, every worker is joyfully celebrating their festival. CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal’s decision has given the Valmiki community its rights, which the BJP has been obstructing for many years.”
