Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister of Delhi Shri Manish Sisodia on Monday said that Delhi continues to get step-motherly treatment from the Government of India; budget 2020-2021 see no increase in share in Central Taxes. He said that the BJP ruled Central govt again disappointed Delhi as Delhi received only Rs 325 crores; citizens of Delhi pay Rs 1.5 lakh crores as tax. He said that Delhi the Municipal Corporations have again been left high and dry with zero allocation against the demand of Rs.12,000 crores. Shri Sisodia said that BJP govt has given Rs 2 lakh crores to all other municipal bodies across India but not to BJP ruled MCDs, before 2017 MCD elections BJP promised to bring money from the Center. He said that UT of Jammu & Kashmir, which is constitutionally on similar footing with the NCT of Delhi, has been provided grant of Rs.30,757 crore as against Rs.957 crore to Delhi.

Shri Sisodia tweeted, “The central government under the BJP has again disappointed Delhi in the budget. Delhi has got only Rs 325 crores in the budget whereas the people of Delhi pay 1.5 lakh crores to the centre.”

He also tweeted, “The BJP government did not even give a single penny to the BJP-ruled MCD, while it has given Rs 2 lakh crore to the municipal corporations across the country. During the MCD election, BJP had said that they would bring the money directly from the Center to the MCD.”

Shri Sisodia said, “Union Budget is a vision document of any government and spells out its economic agenda for the next financial year. This year there was great anticipation around the Union Budget and people of Delhi had high hopes from the Central government that justice would finally be done to them, particularly amid the Covid-19 pandemic which has devastated lives of many people.”

He said, “Delhi continues to get step-motherly treatment from the Government of India. The grant in lieu of share in Central Taxes provided in the Union Budget 2021-22 has been kept unchanged for two decades at Rs.325 crore. The total grants/loans/transfer from Government of India to Delhi has been reduced from Rs.1116 crore to Rs.957 crore.”

Shri Sisodia said, “Delhi Municipal Corporations have again been left high and dry with zero allocation against the demand of Rs.12,000 crore. Delhi government is providing 12.5% of its annual net tax collection to the Local Bodies, however, the Local Bodies in Delhi are not getting any financial support from the Government of India. This happened despite BJP had in 2017, before the MCD elections publicly declared that they would get funds for the MCDs directly from the Centre. What happened to their promise ?”

He said, “Grant towards Disaster Response reduced from Rs.161 crore to Rs.5 crore. Additional Central Assistance for projects reduced from Rs.150 crore to zero.” Shri Sisodia also said that The 10 MPs of Delhi including Hon’ble Union Health Minister, should fight for justice to the people of Delhi before passing the Union Budget.

He said, “The Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, which is constitutionally on similar footing with the NCT of Delhi, has been provided a grant of Rs.30757 crore as against Rs.957 crore to Delhi.
There are three Union Territories with Legislature in India. Delhi gets the least amount of grant in absolute terms and ridiculously low amount in terms of per capita grant from Government of India.”
