Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor (LG) V.K. Saxena’s abrupt decision to dismiss 223 Delhi Commission for Women employees, on May 2, sparks widespread condemnation.
Amid accusations of obstructing Delhi government’s initiatives, LG’s role in mass dismissals of DCW employees sparks outrage. Senior AAP Leader and Cabinet Minister Shri Saurabh Bharadwaj highlights the dismissal of thousands, including bus marshals appointed by the Kejriwal administration for women’s safety, by the LG’s favored officers. Meanwhile, Cabinet Minister Ms. Atishi criticizes the BJP central government for endorsing rapists as political candidates and undermining women commissions’ advocating for women’s rights, deeming BJP the biggest threat to women nationwide.
Tweeting on the sudden and abrupt removal DCW employees, Delhi’s Cabinet Minister and Senior AAP Leader Shri Saurabh Bharadwaj shared on his ‘X’ handle (erstwhile Twitter), “Delhi’s LG sahab has rendered thousands of people unemployed in Delhi in the last 1.5 years. His aim is to stop all the good work of the Delhi government. Empowering these oppressed girls is true patriotism, humanity, the ultimate religion.”
“In July last year, nearly 400 fellows, advisors, consultants, specialists and research fellows were expelled. These young people had come after studying from big universities, and were making big contributions in government work. In this way a conspiracy was hatched to stop the work of the elected government, MLAs and ministers,” he added in the thread.
Shri Saurabh Bharadwaj further writes, “For the safety of women in Delhi buses, Delhi’s Kejriwal government appointed around 8,000 bus marshals. LG sahab’s favorite officers even got the marshals fired from their jobs. Thousands of poor families in Delhi were able to run their households, now they are dying of hunger. And the women of Delhi are at the mercy of God.”
Meanwhile, Senior AAP Leader and Cabinet Minister Ms. Atishi shared on her ‘X’ (erstwhile Twitter) handle, “The staff of the Delhi Commission for Women who helped thousands of rape victims, acid attack survivors, domestic abuse victims; provided justice to lakhs of women through its helpline, has been ordered to be removed from the Commission by the LG.”
“The BJP central government gives tickets to rapists by garlanding them, and ruins the commission that fights for the rights of victimized, helpless women. The whole country should know: The biggest threat to women in this country is the BJP,” her tweet further reads
