Delhi’s Health Minister, Shri Saurabh Bharadwaj, inspected Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital, engaging with patients afflicted by heat strokes. During his visit, he assessed the patients’ conditions and the hospital’s treatment facilities. The Delhi Health minister interacted with doctors, stressing the importance of preventive measures against heat-related illnesses and directed them to ensure the availability of all necessary amenities. Additionally, he evaluated the hospital’s provisions for medicines, water, electricity, and air cooling systems. Minister Shri Saurabh Bharadwaj also urged the public to take precautions to mitigate the effects of the severe heat.
After the surprise inspection, Shri Saurabh Bharadwaj briefed that the heat in Delhi has increased a lot in the last few days. Even the minimum temperature has been measured at 38 degrees Celsius. Due to the heat, the number of heat stroke patients has increased in entire North India. Due to this, today we have come to the Delhi Government’s Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital to take a closer look at the arrangements.
“All the medicines, injections, ice packs etc. are available in sufficient quantities for heat stroke patients in the hospital. Along with this, adequate arrangements have also been made in the hospital to keep the heat stroke patients cool,” the Delhi Health Minister added.
The Minister informed, “We have written a letter to the Delhi Police Commissioner in this regard yesterday and appealed to him that if the Delhi Police personnel who patrol at night see any such sick person on the road, then the Delhi Police personnel should take that person to the hospital or inform our ambulance service by calling so that that person can be taken to the hospital and treated immediately.
“To help such patients, the Delhi Health Ministry has issued instructions to CATs Ambulance Services that five ambulances each should be arranged in 11 different districts of Delhi, which will immediately take such patients suffering from heat stroke to the hospitals. Special care should be taken around night shelters and if any such patient is seen, then immediately take him to the hospital,” he added.
The Health Minister appealed to all the people of Delhi to avoid the heat. Especially those who do field work, for example, security guards, mechanics, laborers etc., he appealed to all people to take adequate measures to avoid the heat. Giving the example of a security guard admitted to the hospital, the Minister said that he had suffered from heat stroke due to working in the heat for 2 days continuously. He was admitted to the hospital and is feeling better now, soon he will recover and reach home.
Sharing the current data regarding heat stroke patients, Shri Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “According to the information I received, about 310 heat stroke patients were admitted to the hospital in the recent past, out of which 112 patients have recovered and returned to their homes. Out of the 14 heat stroke patients who died, almost all of them already had some serious disease like cancer or kidney disease, due to which their condition worsened and they died.
“The Delhi government is keeping a close watch on the situation. In all the hospitals, adequate medicines and environment have been arranged smoothly for the treatment of heat stroke patients. Our effort is that as soon as any heat stroke patient is found, they should be immediately admitted to the nearest hospital of the Delhi government and their treatment should be started so that their life can be saved,” Shri Saurabh Bharadwaj concluded.
