From now onwards in Delhi, there will be no need to break the road and dig up the ground to find out about leakage of water in the underground pipeline. The Kejriwal government has decided to employ helium leakage detection technology so that any leakage in the water pipeline can be easily found out. Through the use of this modern technology, the people of Delhi will find relief from the problem of contaminated water.
Following the instructions of the Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal, Water Minister Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj reached Shahpur Jat on Tuesday to inspect the modern equipment for detecting leakage and contaminated water in the pipeline. During this visit, the Water Minister tested the helium leakage detection technology to find out how successfully the device was able to detect leaks in the pipeline.
Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj said that complaints about the supply of contaminated water were being received in Shahpur Jat for last few days. In such a situation, the Delhi Government has decided to adopt helium leakage detection technology to solve the problem of contaminated water.
It should be noted that many times, drinking water and sewer water gets mixed. This problem arises primarily due to any leakage in the drinking water pipeline. Sewage then enters the pipeline through the place of the leakage.
Until now, only information about leakages visible on the road was easily available. When there was a problem of contaminated water due to leakage inside the ground, pits had to be dug up at many places in order to find the point of the leakage from the pipeline. Apart from breaking the road due to this, money and time were also wasted. But now with the help of helium leakage detection technology, information about the leakage of the pipeline will be easily available.
Helium gas is introduced into the pipeline, followed by drilling at multiple locations. The location of the leakage is determined by observing the ascent of helium gas to the surface.
Due to this modern technology, digging has to be done only at the place of leakage. There is no need to dig the line completely. The drill goes up to 400 mm deep.
It should also be noted that helium is the least soluble gas in water. Therefore, this gas does not cause any harm medically and is thus safe for use.
There are many benefits to using helium leakage detection technology. Fixing the leakage of the pipeline will provide relief from the problem of contaminated water more effectively and efficiently. Additionally, prevention of leakage will save precious water, which would otherwise keep leaking and become wasted.
Furthermore, now there will be no need to break the road up and dig pits to find leakages. Drinking water pressure remains low during and due to leakage. After rectifying the leakage, the water supply pressure will increase, and water will be able to reach the tail end of the pipeline.
Water Minister Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj said that the Delhi government under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal is working on a war footing to provide clean and plentiful water to every household in Delhi. The problem of contaminated water is being addressed on top priority basis under the instructions and leadership of the CM. Moreover, by identifying the areas with contaminated water supply, the root of the problem can be reached more expeditiously, so that a permanent solution to the problem can be found.
Delhi Jal Board is constantly monitoring complaints related to contaminated water and is engaged in resolving them according to the needs of the area.
The Water Minister added that it is the responsibility of the government to provide clean water to the citizens of Delhi, so no home will have to face the problem of getting dirty water. Any delay or negligence in providing clean water to Delhiites will not be tolerated. To overcome the shortage of water in the capital, the Kejriwal government is also installing tubewells in different areas where the groundwater level is high. This will help in meeting the population-wise demand of water in the capital and there will be no shortage of water in Delhi during the summers.
