In a resolute display of dissent against the cancellation of mayoral election, the AAP leaders and volunteers on Saturday demonstrated against the anti-Dalit Bharatiya Janata Party.
The AAP leaders said the BJP could not tolerate a Dalit’s son becoming the mayor of Delhi. They conspired along with the LG of Delhi to cancel the mayoral elections as they were aware that the AAP candidate was going to win with huge majority. Today, MLAs Ms. Rakhi Birla and Shri Ajay Dutt, mayor candidate Shri Mahesh Khichi and hundreds of AAP volunteers roared against the prejudice of the BJP against the Dalit community in a fierce demonstration of dissent and disapproval. The AAP, in a scathing criticism of the BJP, stated that the BJP’s anti-Dalit face has yet again come to the fore in front of the country.
The Aam Aadmi Party held a massive demonstration at the BJP headquarters for stopping a person from Dalit community from becoming the Mayor of Delhi. A large number of people from the Dalit community from across Delhi participated in this demonstration and raised slogans accusing the BJP of being anti-Dalit. People from the Dalit community raised slogans like ‘Jai Bhim’ and said that they will take back their rights, no matter how big a battle they have to fight for it.
During the protest, the police detained dozens of AAP MLAs and volunteers, including MLAs Ms. Rakhi Birla and Shri Ajay Dutt, along with mayor candidate Shri Mahesh Khichi, who were staging the protest. Ms. Rakhi Birla said that this time a Dalit son was to become the Mayor of Delhi, but the BJP’s LG cancelled the election overnight. The BJP wants to take away the voting rights and reservation of Dalits by changing Baba Saheb’s Constitution. This time, the Dalit community of the entire country will oust the BJP from power and its candidates will lose their security deposits on all Delhi Lok Sabha seats.
MLA Ms. Rakhi Birla said that the real character and anti-Dalit face of the BJP has again come to the fore in front of the public. This time, it was certain that a Dalit son would be sitting on the chair of the Mayor of Delhi, therefore, the BJP’s LG did not appoint a presiding officer and cancelled the mayor elections overnight. She stated that I want to tell the BJP that you do not have enough power to change the Constitution written by Baba Saheb, abolish the voting rights of the Dalits, and take away the reservation right of the Dalits. Lashing out at the BJP led central government, she raised slogans like ‘Modi Sarkaar, Haye Haye!’
MLA Shri Ajay Dutt said that once in 5 years, a Dalit is made mayor as per the Constitution. The Election Commission had also given permission for mayor elections in Delhi. Just one day prior to the election, at the behest of the BJP, the LG cancelled the mayor’s election and brought his anti-Dalit mentality to the fore. This is against the Constitution. Anyone who works against the Constitution and the Dalits will not be tolerated. There is outrage within the Dalit community about the cancellation of elections.
He said that the BJP leaders publicly talk about changing the Constitution and snatching away the reservation of Dalits. They repeatedly manipulate the elections. Due to this, every citizen of the country, especially the Dalit community, is outrageous, sad and troubled. That is why we are demonstrating against the BJP. Delhi Police is detaining and taking away our people, but we will keep fighting to save the Constitution and democracy of this country. This time, the entire country will answer all the atrocities of the BJP with its votes. Our campaign to make mayor from the Dalit community will continue. We will not let them take the rights of the Dalits. We will do whatever it takes to save Baba Saheb’s Constitution.
Mayoral candidate Shri Mahesh Khichi said that the whole country is watching the dictatorship of the BJP government as we are protesting peacefully, and the police are detaining us. These people are openly murdering democracy and the Constitution. The people of the country will answer this with their votes and on May 25, INDIA alliance is going to win all the seven Lok Sabha seats of Delhi.
