Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Shri Manish Sisodia on Thursday said that in the National Council meeting of AAP, it has unanimously been decided that the party will fight assembly elections in six states, along with demanding immediate rollback of three anti-farmer laws by the BJP. He said that AAP will fight elections in six states in the next two years, in UP, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Gujarat. He said that AAP noted that BJP deliberately tried to malign the farmer protest and harass the innocent people by framing them. Shri Sisodia said that in the national council meeting, AAP also decided to amend some of the clauses in the party’s constitution to grow the organisation in various states.
Shri Sisodia said, “Today there was a national council meeting of the Aam Aadmi Party where every member under the leadership of Aam Aadmi Party national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal have decided that the party will fight the upcoming assembly elections in the six states. To take our politics of work to other states, AAP will fight elections in six states in the next two years, UP, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Gujarat. People from these states who stay in Delhi are continuously discussing the benefits given by the Kejriwal government like free electricity, free water, free bus rides for women, good education and good healthcare. The way the Kejriwal government has worked for the poor people of Delhi like labourers, daily wagers and other marginalised people it has become a new model of governance to the entire world. So the people of these states are also talking about how the Kejriwal government dealt with the Covid pandemic in the capital. The people are demanding to the Aam Aadmi Party that if a state like Delhi which is the capital of India can get these benefits then why can’t other states get? People are also significantly talking about our education revolution. People are saying that if the Delhi government can bring such a revolution in the education sector and most importantly in the government schools then a similar thing should also happen in the other states. Today the party unanimously decided that we will fight elections in all these six states. We will fight these elections based on the Kejriwal model of development.”
He said “In the national council meeting, we also discussed the issue of farmer protest. We have noted that the BJP government and its agencies are deliberately trying to malign the image of this protest. We have also noted that they deliberately tried to instigate violence on Republic Day. We have also noted that the BJP government is trying to frame the innocent people for the violence and not taking action against the real culprits. The farmers are protesting for the last two months with demands like the immediate repeal of the three antifarmer laws and legalising the MSP. We believe that these demands are yet to meet. Today the Aam Aadmi Party in its national council meeting has unanimously decided that the BJP government should immediately roll back these three antifarmer laws.”
Shri Sisodia said, “In the national council meeting, we also took the decision to amend some of the clauses in our AAP’s constitution. With our experiences of the last nine years, we have found that there were some clauses which were bringing difficulties in the growth of the party. We noted that the main problem is happening in the states where the party is new and trying to build its organisation. To make our Constitution more useful we have made some amendments today.”
Shri Sisodia elaborated on the following amendments:
1) Earlier our Constitution noted that in every state the primary unit would be at the booth level but today we amended it made it to the district level. Which means in every state the primary unit of the Aam Aadmi Party would be at the district level.
2) The party has also decided during this amendment that every MP and MLA of the Aam Aadmi Party will be by default a member of the National Council. These elected representatives will also be part of the state councils of the Aam Aadmi Party from their respective states.
3) Earlier our Constitution had a clause that in any state or district level if a vacancy of an office-bearer is created due to the death of the person or for other reasons then this post used to stay vacant until the next organisational election. Now we have amended this clause and decided that the national executive in the matters of the national organisation and the state executive in the matters of state organisation will have the power to appoint an interim person for the particular post. This post will be valid until the next organisational election.
4) We have also decided that every member will have the full right to criticise the leadership or to bring out organisational issues in all the party platforms. But no one should bring such issues in the public domain.
5) We have also decided that from now on state council or the national council meeting can take place virtually and it will be valid.
6) Earlier one clause of our constitution was that two people from the same family cannot fight the election. This rule will be only valid for the existing members of the AAP. But we are witnessing that many new leaders are joining our party whose two family members have fought elections. In such cases, the party has decided to allow such people to join, fight elections and work for the AAP.
