The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has lauded its performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections as a significant achievement. Dr. Sandeep Pathak, AAP’s National General Secretary (Organization), emphasized the party’s commitment to safeguarding the country and supporting the INDIA Alliance. Despite the challenging circumstances, AAP’s concerted efforts, Shri Arvind Kejriwal’s extensive campaigning post-release on interim bail, contributed to the INDIA Alliance’s commendable showing against the BJP. The party highlighted its success in securing three MP seats in Punjab and vowed to continue working diligently to achieve even better results in the future.
AAP National General Secretary (Organization) and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sandeep Pathak held a press conference at the party headquarters on Wednesday and put forth the party’s view on the results of the Lok Sabha elections. Dr. Sandeep Pathak said that the results of the Lok Sabha elections have come. These results have made it clear that the country will not tolerate any kind of dictatorship and ‘goondagardi’ (hooliganism). This election was fought between PM Narendra Modi and the INDIA Alliance. If we look at the results, Shri Narendra Modi’s party has got 63 seats less this time compared to the last time and the BJP has not got a majority. At the same time, many Chief Ministers of the constituent parties of the INDIA Alliance were put in jail, raids were conducted on many people, and they took over all the agencies. Despite such difficult circumstances, the INDIA Alliance has performed very well. This makes it clear that if someone tampers with the Constitution, the people of the country will not tolerate it.
The AAP National General Secretary (Organisation) further added, “We were saying from the first day that the AAP is not important, the country is important. We joined the INDIA Alliance with this feeling and we put our heart and soul into making the alliance win. We worked harder than our capacity. Before this election, the BJP had challenged to destroy the AAP by breaking it. BJP put many of our leaders in jail. Our biggest leader Shri Arvind Kejriwal was also put in jail. BJP threatened our volunteers, tried to buy MLAs and hatched many conspiracies. The result of all these conspiracies was that the people of the country rejected them, and even today the AAP is completely united. The AAP fought with full strength and our 3 candidates became MPs from Punjab, while we had a very close contest on 2-3 seats. The AAP is completely firm and ready to fight.”
Dr. Sandeep Pathak mentioned that after coming out of jail for 21 days on interim bail, Shri Arvind Kejriwal devoted all his time to campaigning. He went to many states and campaigned for all the parties and leaders of the INDIA Alliance. He even went to Chandigarh and campaigned for Congress candidate Shri Manish Tiwari. Shri Arvind Kejriwal was asked whether it was necessary to campaign in Chandigarh. To this, he replied that for me the country is more important than the AAP.
“I want to thank all the volunteers of the AAP. The way they struggled even in such heat and such difficult conditions is quite amazing. Delhi has a fixed process, it votes for the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections and votes for Shri Arvind Kejriwal and other parties in the Vidhan Sabha elections. Delhi stuck to its electoral practice this time too, but the margin of his victory which used to be in lakhs has reduced considerably this time. It was clear that the public was completely ready to change him,” he affirmed.
The AAP Rajya Sabha MP shared, “In 2019, we got about 7% votes in Punjab and won one seat. We were fourth or fifth in the remaining seats. But this time we won 3 seats, while the contest was very close to 2 seats. Apart from this, we have performed very well on other seats as well. In 2019, the vote share of AAP was 7%, while this time it is 26%. We should have high expectations. We have got fewer seats in Punjab than expected. But we also have to accept that the Lok Sabha election is fought on a different narrative. This election has proved that the AAP is a well-established party in Punjab as well. Shri Sushil Gupta lagged by a small margin in Kurukshetra. There he remained in the contest till the last moment. There was a very good contest in Bharuch as well.”
“Shri Arvind Kejriwal campaigned in Chandigarh and won there. We have got one and a half lakh votes in Assam. For the AAP, this election was the election of the country. We went with the INDIA Alliance and we followed the coalition ‘dharma’ with full honesty. The public has blessed us so much. We thank the public for this,” Dr. Sandeep Pathak concluded.
