On November 16, the AAP government in Delhi set a new standard of governance in India by announcing the launch of forty government services that will be delivered directly to citizens’ homes. This is a major strike by the AAP government at retail corruption that is synonymous with any government transaction in India.

This initiative recognizes that effective governance has to make a difference in the lives of aam aadmi – most of whom are too busy working for their living to be able to spend time at government offices to get the services they need. While the traditional approach by governments tries to bring citizens to designated common service centers, Delhi will be the first state where the services will come to the doorstep of the citizen. A classic example of what we call the #DelhiModel of good governance.

To begin with, 40 services will be delivered by mobile sahayaks for a fee after registering through a call center. Currently, for these 40 service alone, citizens make 25 lakh transactions a year in Delhi, averaging four visits for each. After the launch of 40 services through this initiative, 30 additional services will be added every month.

Banks and mobile companies provide these levels services to only their “privileged” customers. Delhi Government will provide all these and more services to all citizens of the State. A great example of #DelhiModel of Good Governance
