The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) slammed Delhi’s LG Shri VK Saxena for defending the BJP government of Haryana instead of the people of Delhi on the issue of deepening water crisis in Delhi. The AAP’s Chief Spokesperson (National) Priyanka Kakkar said that LG Sahab is working for the BJP instead of the people of Delhi, whereas the AAP is fighting for the water rights of Delhiites and we will ensure that they get water. She said that Himachal says that as per the Supreme Court’s instructions, it is releasing 137 cusecs of water for Delhi every day from June 7. During the hearing on Monday, the Delhi government told the court that the water released from Himachal has not reached Delhi. Now the Haryana government is calling the Himachal government a liar in the court and saying that it does not have additional water to release.
On the other hand, as per the agreement between Haryana and Delhi government, Delhi was getting 1050 cusecs of water from Munak canal. The Haryana government has cut 200 cusecs of that too. At the same time, LG Sahab has gone two steps further in defence of the Haryana government. He is saying that the Haryana government is giving more than 2200 cusecs of water to Delhi, whereas Haryana has not said so in the court.
The Aam Aadmi Party’s Chief Spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said in a press conference at the party headquarters on Tuesday that the Delhi government is making every possible effort to ensure that water is rationed at this time and that water is not wasted anywhere. But as we all know, due to an unprecedented heatwave, where the temperature of Delhi had touched almost 53 degrees, the demand for water in Delhi increased considerably.
Priyanka Kakkar said, “I had told you yesterday that the Himachal Pradesh government is ready to give us this additional water. But since Himachal Pradesh is not adjacent to Delhi, that water has to come from Haryana’s Hathnikund barrage to Delhi’s Wazirabad barrage. Regarding this matter, we went to the Supreme Court on 31 May. As per the Supreme Court’s instructions of 3rd June, a meeting of the Upper Yamuna River Board was called on 5th, in that meeting it was stated that Delhi needs additional water, which the Haryana government is ready to provide. On 6th June, the Supreme Court ordered that this water, 137 cusecs of water, will come from Himachal Pradesh to Wazirabad Barrage in Delhi via Hathnikund Barrage in Haryana. The Haryana government has to ensure that there is no obstruction in between.”
“Yesterday, on 10th June, the Supreme Court heard this case. We informed the court that even after the court’s order, water did not reach Delhi. The Haryana government, in their argument, stated that the Himachal Pradesh government is lying and it does not have any additional water. This is an absolutely ridiculous argument because the Himachal Pradesh government said that they have released the water and that water should be allowed to reach Delhi,” she stated.
Priyanka Kakkar told that according to an agreement, Delhi gets 1050 cusecs of water, which comes to Delhi from Haryana through the Munak canal. The Haryana Government has also reduced it by 200 cusecs. On this, the Haryana government told the court that they are giving the full 1050 cusecs of water to Delhi. Now the next hearing on this matter is on June 12th.
Expressing dismay, the Chief Spokesperson of the AAP said that Delhi’s LG VK Saxena issued a press release in favour of the Haryana government on Monday, saying that Haryana is releasing more than 2200 cusecs of water. He even gave some twisted data to prove his point, but he still had to admit that 200 cusecs of water has been reduced.
The Chief Spokesperson (National)shared, “In his press release, LG Sahab admitted that Delhi is getting less water. It is shocking that Delhi’s LG, instead of fighting for the rights of Delhiites, is standing in support of the Haryana government which is stopping Delhi’s water and is giving baseless arguments in the court. LG Sahab will have to tell whether the Haryana government’s statement about 1050 cusecs of water in court is true or whether your statement about releasing more than 2200 cusecs of water is true. Why is this 200 cusecs of water being reduced?
“The new MPs of Delhi will also have to think that they should not behave like old BJP MPs. People of Delhi have given you a chance, you should raise the voice of Delhi. You should tell the LG that he has not been appointed as the agent of the BJP but as the LG of Delhi and he will have to fight for the rights of Delhiites” Priyanka Kakkar concluded.
