In a significant development, the Haryana government’s claim of providing sufficient water to Delhi has been called into question. According to an affidavit filed by Haryana in the Supreme Court, the data reveals that the state has been withholding Delhi’s share of water. Delhi’s Water Minister, Ms. Atishi, highlighted that the affidavit shows Haryana has supplied less water through the Munak Canal, particularly during the Delhi Lok Sabha elections and the current heatwave. This revelation indicates a deliberate reduction in water supply, impacting Delhi’s residents during critical times.

Revealing the lies peddled by the Haryana government, Delhi’s Water Minister Atishi said, “For the last few weeks, there has been a heatwave in Delhi and due to this the demand for water in Delhi has increased. Despite this, the amount of water that Delhi should get from Haryana is continuously decreasing. Whether it is at Wazirabad Barrage or Munak Canal, Haryana is not releasing as much water for Delhi as it has to. Due to this, Delhi’s water treatment plants are not able to work to their full capacity. When we write letters to the Haryana government and talk to them, they keep claiming that they are releasing water, but this lie of the Haryana government has been exposed by the affidavit filed by them in the Supreme Court itself.”

The Delhi Water Minister continued, stating, “The Delhi government went to the Supreme Court on the issue of water. The Supreme Court said that Delhi needs water. Himachal Pradesh said that we could provide water to Delhi, for this Haryana only has to give way but Haryana opposed it. An example of this is that since the day this matter went to the Supreme Court, the water level of Wazirabad Barrage has been continuously decreasing. But Haryana’s conspiracy of not giving water to Delhi did not stop at Wazirabad Barrage, but the water coming to Delhi from Munak Canal was also reduced.”

She further added that as per the decision taken in the Upper Yamuna River Board, Haryana was to give 1050 cusecs of water to Delhi from the Munak Canal. But for the last few days, Delhi has been receiving less water from Haryana. Haryana was constantly lying that they had released all the water to Delhi, but their lie was exposed by their affidavit given in the Supreme Court.

Minister Atishi mentioned, “The figures of the affidavit given by the Haryana government in the Supreme Court show that from 1 May to 22 May, Haryana is releasing 719 cusecs of water in CLC and 330 cusecs of water in DSB through Munak canal. That means 1049 cusecs of water was released daily. But after this, it started decreasing from 23 May. That means, that when there were elections in Delhi, Haryana reduced the sending of water. Compared to 719 cusecs of water in CLC and 330 cusecs in DSB, the water supply became 675 cusecs and 283 cusecs, this is Haryana’s figures. The elections in Delhi were on 25 May, before that, the water supply to Delhi was reduced for 4 days, which is clear from his Supreme Court affidavit itself.”

The Water Minister shared that now that Delhi has been facing a water crisis for the last week and the matter is going on in the Supreme Court, Haryana is reducing the water of the Munak Canal. According to Haryana’s data, on 7, 8, 9 and 10 June, Haryana was supposed to release 719 cusecs of water in CLC, instead of which only 675 cusecs of water were released, and in DSB, instead of 330 cusecs, 310 cusecs of water was released. The lies being peddled by the Haryana government for some time have been exposed in the affidavit and data of the Haryana government itself. And now it has become absolutely clear to the entire Delhi and the people of the country that Haryana is deliberately stopping the water that is Delhi’s right.

“Today the lies of the Haryana government have been exposed and it has become clear that Haryana is releasing only 985 cusecs of water instead of 1050 cusecs, which is getting even less in Delhi due to transmission loss. Due to this, water production is decreasing and the people of Delhi are troubled. We will submit all these figures to the Supreme Court and tell how the Haryana government is also disobeying the Supreme Court,” Minister Atishi concluded.
