AAP’s MCD government is taking all precautionary steps to ensure that Delhiites don’t face any inconveniences in this record-shattering unprecedented heat wave

In response to the record-shattering and unprecedented heat wave, the AAP-led MCD government is taking all necessary precautions to ensure Delhiites face minimal inconvenience. MCD Mayor Dr. Shelly Oberoi convened a detailed meeting with the heads of all Municipal Corporation departments to review the current situation. Following the discussions, a comprehensive heat wave advisory was issued to all departments to prevent any accidents in Delhi. The Mayor also mandated the submission of an action-taken report by May 31.

It is noteworthy that ever since the heat waves struck Delhi, the Kejriwal government’s departments have been on high alert. The Kejriwal government is steadfastly ensuring that Delhiites’ lives are not severely impacted by these unprecedented heat waves.

After convening a detailed meeting with the heads of MCD’s departments, MCD Mayor Dr. Shelly Oberoi issued an advisory. The Advisory reads, “All Incharges of Hospitals and Health Units in coordination with the Engineering Department must follow these instructions to prevent occurrences of Fire Incidents in hospitals and various other healthcare facilities:

1. Hospitals must regularly inspect firefighting equipment such as fire extinguishers, hydrants, and alarms to ensure all are functional.
2. Regular Maintenance and Testing of Fire Safety equipment to be carried out.
3. Regular Electrical Load Audits are to be carried out to ensure they meet safety standards without overloading the system as per the National Electrical Code of India-2023.
4. In areas with oxygen tanks or piped oxygen, implement strict no-smoking policies and controls on heat sources.
5. Ensure fire smoke detectors and fire alarms are installed in all hospital areas, particularly in patient rooms, hallways, and common areas.
6. Audit materials used in hospital construction and furnishings to identify and replace combustible materials with non-combustible or fire-resistant materials, especially in patient care areas.
7. Use power management systems to monitor electrical loads and prevent overloading.
8. Fit critical areas, Including ICUs and operation theatres, with automatic sprinkler systems and accessible hosepipes.
9. Annually Renew the Fire Safety No-Objection Certificate from the Fire Department.
10. Conduct fire drills including evacuation drills to ensure staff, doctors and patients know how to respond in an emergency.
11. Develop a comprehensive evacuation plan and SOP to be followed in case of fire incidents.

All Incharges of Hospitals and Health Units are directed to submit an action taken report to the undersigned latest by 31.5.2024 positively.”
