Delhi has shattered its 15-year record for electricity consumption in May, with demand surpassing 8,000 MW. Despite this unprecedented usage, the Kejriwal government continues to provide uninterrupted 24-hour electricity to its citizens. Providing this information on his ‘X’ handle, CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal writes that today, the peak power demand in Delhi reached 8,000 MW. The Delhi government has met this peak demand without imposing a power cut. This is the reason why the BJP wants to destroy the AAP. Because our work shows the truth of their failure to the entire country.

On Wednesday, Delhi’s Power Minister Atishi announced that the city’s power demand peaked at 7,717 MW on May 21 due to severe heat waves. She emphasized that, despite the scorching heat and high demand, Delhi has not experienced any power cuts. Ms. Atishi noted that electricity consumption typically spikes in July-August due to humid conditions, and this year’s early surge suggests that demand would cross way more than 8,000 MW in the coming months. She assured residents that the government is prepared for this increase. In contrast, neighboring BJP-ruled states, including Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, are experiencing prolonged and frequent power cuts.

Meanwhile, Delhi CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal shared this information on his ‘X’ handle (erstwhile Twitter), stating, “Today at 3:42 pm, the peak power demand in Delhi reached 8,000 MW. The Delhi government has met this peak demand without imposing a power cut. This is a great achievement for the people of Delhi, because till 2014, there used to be long power cuts even at the peak demand of 5,925 MW in summers. On the other hand, there are BJP ruled states like UP, Haryana, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, where there have been power cuts of 10-12 hours in the last 2-3 days. This is the reason why the BJP wants to destroy the Aam Aadmi Party. Because our work shows the truth of their failure to the entire country.”

While, Delhi’s Power Minister Ms. Atishi held a press conference at Delhi Secretariat on Wednesday and assured 24-hour power supply despite the increasing demand for electricity in the scorching heat. She said that for the last few days, the temperature has been continuously above 45 degree Celsius. On Tuesday, the temperature in some parts of Delhi reached 48 degrees. Due to the increasing heat, the demand for electricity has reached its peak in May for the first time in 15 years.

The Delhi Power Minister continued, stating, “In Delhi, the peak demand for electricity often comes in the months of July-August. But on May 21, Delhi reached its historic demand. On May 21, the peak demand for electricity in Delhi was nearly 8,000 MW. This has been the highest demand for electricity in the history of Delhi so far. I am happy that despite the historic peak demand for electricity in May, there has been no problem in power supply in Delhi. Despite such a peak demand in this scorching heat, the Kejriwal government in Delhi is providing 24-hour electricity. There is no load shedding or blackouts anywhere in Delhi. Just like the electricity supply has been going on in Delhi for the last 9 years, in the same way electricity is being supplied even in this extreme heat.”

Minister Atishi, while reminding the summer of 2014, further said that Delhi had also seen the heat wave of 2014. In 2014, the peak demand of electricity had gone up to 5,925 MW. But to ensure the same power supply, there were very long blackouts in Delhi. There were power cuts of 6-8 hours. At the same time, today, even after the peak demand of electricity has reached nearly 8,000 MW, 24-hour electricity is available in Delhi. For this, I would like to congratulate the Power Department of the Delhi Government, the three power companies that due to their excellent management, the people of Delhi are not facing any problem of electricity. On behalf of Delhiites, I would like to thank Delhi CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal that perhaps Delhi is the only state in the whole country which provides electricity 24 hours a day.

Referring to the power supply in the neighboring states of Delhi, the Power Minister said that the neighboring states of Delhi haveBJP governments. There have been long power cuts in these states in the last two days. In many societies of Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh, there was a power cut of more than 4 hours on 21 and 22 May. On 21 and 22 May, there were power cuts of more than 8 hours in about 25 sectors of Noida. Similarly, there have been long power cuts of 6 hours each in many parts of Ghaziabad. There has been a power cut of 14 hours in Loni. Similarly, there is a BJP government in Haryana too. In Gurugram, Haryana, there have been power cuts for more than 10 times a day in the last 3 days. In some societies, there have been 13 power cuts from morning to night, because Haryana could not manage the power supply. Similarly, in the states where there is a BJP government, including Bhopal & Ujjain of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, long power cuts have been observed in this heat wave.

“BJP and PM Narendra Modi have this problem with Shri Arvind Kejriwal. Because PM Modi is not able to fulfill even a single promise. Today there are severe power cuts in BJP ruled states. On the other hand, Shri Arvind Kejriwal is fulfilling every promise. CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal had promised to provide 24 hours electricity to Delhiites. Even in this severe heat wave situation, Delhiites are getting 24 hours electricity. Due to the humid heat in July and August, the use of AC increases. This increases the demand for electricity by about 25 percent. If we go by that calculation, the peak power load of electricity can way more than 8,000 MW in July-August. The Delhi government and the three power companies are also ready to supply even more than 8,000 MW of electricity,” Ms. Atishi concluded.
